Michael R. Schommer Sr., age 46, of Hastings, died July 20, 2010, at his home. Michael was born Nov. 29, 1963, in Hastings and was a 1982 graduate of Hastings High School. He was a former member of the National Guard, and was self-employed as a painter. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and nephew Justin Schommer. Michael is survived by children, Michael R. Schommer Jr.
James L. Felber, age 70, of Hastings, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. James was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Easton, Minn., to George and Lola (Danks) Felber and was employed in the auto service industry as a mechanic.
Alice M. Heckel, age 87, of Prescott, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Prescott Nursing & Rehabilitation Community. She was born April 22, 1923, to John and Rilla (Mann) Carlson of Diamond Bluff. She married John Heckel on Feb. 19, 1944. Alice graduated from Prescott High School and attended Wisconsin State University-River Falls. She was the librarian for the Prescott Public Library for over 25 years, retiring in mid-1990s and an educational aide for Prescott Middle School for 39 years, retiring in 2003. She was a member of the Pierce Co.
Joan M. Jacobson, age 71, of Minneapolis, formerly of Hastings, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Ebenezer Care Center. Joan was born May 5, 1939, in Hastings, to Joseph L. and Catherine (Majeski) Herkenratt. She attended Hastings schools and was the cook at Dakota County Government Center in Hastings for many years. Joan loved baking, gardening, and shopping and was a former member of both the Regina Hospital Auxiliary and the V.F.W.
Evelyn Matsch Evelyn Marie (Wildes) Matsch, age 89, of Hastings, passed away July 12, 2010, at the Regina Long Term Care Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Hastings on Sept. 22, 1920, to Jesse Wildes and Lillian Amanda (Carlson) Wildes. She then married Loran L. Matsch. Preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Brown; sisters, Helen Werth, Ruby (Peter) Haas, Lorraine (Ed) Sontag, Marge (Jack) Coonrod; brother, Beise (Monica) Wildes. Survived by her husband of 70 years, Loran L.
Charles M. Schultz, JFD member, age 61, of Mounds View, formerly of Hastings, passed away July 12, 2010. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at Mueller Parkway Chapel, 835 Johnson Pkwy., St. Paul, and 1 hour prior to the service. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Mueller Parkway Chapel. Interment in Amery, Wis. Memorials preferred. Funeral services entrusted to Mueller Parkway Chapel, 651-774-9797.
Laurence "Larry" Hunter, age 83, of Hastings died July 8, 2010, at his home. Larry was born Dec. 1, 1926, in Waterford, Minn., to Laurence and Mary (Hendricks) Hunter. He was a former member of the Merchant Marines and married Eleanor Kummer on Oct. 8, 1947. Larry was Regional Director of OCAW for many years prior to retirement. He loved traveling and the outdoors. He was also active in local and regional politics.
Shirley Jean Boie, age 87, of Hastings, Minn., died June 29, 2010. Jeannie was born near Weaver, Minn. She was married to Adrian Boie, her loving husband of 60 years. She found great joy in her five boys and their children. She loved being a grandmother, and the love she taught them lives on in them. She will be fondly remembered for her love of reading, sense of humor, and her warm, loving nature. Jeannie was baptized in 1946 in symbol of her dedication to Jehovah God.
Ruby V. Thompson, age 87, of Hastings, died July 10, 2010, at Augustana Health Care Center. Ruby was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Lindford, Minn., to Conrad and Emma (Lindvall) Pearson. She had worked as a bookkeeper and married Irving Thompson on May 24, 1950 in Ladysmith, Wis.
Arnold A. Kimmes, age 75, of Hastings, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Arnold was born July 16, 1934, in Welch to Matt and Marie (Schiller) Kimmes. He married Lorraine Reinardy on May 14, 1955, in New Trier. Arnold loved golf, playing cards, fishing, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #87. His skills as a master carpenter were appreciated by many family members and friends, never hesitating to help whenever his skills were needed.
