Charles F. Jones, age 79, of Hastings, formerly of Wichita Falls, Texas, went home to be with his Savior on July 2, 2009, surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Paul Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Marlene, and children Bonnie (Glen) Saponari, Charles Jr., (Barbara) Jones, Mark (Sherry) Morstad, Gary (Charlene) Morstad, Peter Morstad, David Jones, and Kate (Ken) Seaton; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jeremy R. Gydesen, age 35, of Stillwater, died July 10, 2009. Jeremy was born in Minneapolis, Minn., Jan. 9, 1974, to Edward "Pete" and Anna (Bauer) Gydesen. He married Stacy Kay McMahon Oct. 10, 2008, in Washington County. Jeremy was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife, Stacy Kay; daughter, Jessica; step-children, Megan and Michael; mother, Anna Gydesen of Hastings; sister, Dana (Chad) Toll of Lakeville; and nephew and niece, Justin and Sierra Toll. The memorial service, with the Rev. Jim Bzoskie officiating, will be held at 10 a.m.
Howard W. Atchison, age 84, of Hastings, died July 8, 2009, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Howard was born in Prescott June 28, 1925, to William and Velma (Brezie) Atchison. Howard married Ruth Johnson May 18, 1946, at Riverview Apostolic Mission in West St. Paul. He worked in floor coverings as a linoleum layer. Howard served on the Lake Rebecca Restoration Project, and was a member of the American Legion.
Gordon A. Grieger, age 80, of Hastings and formerly of Randolph, died Wednesday evening, July 8, 2009, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls. Gordon was born June 27, 1929, in Inver Grove Township, the son of Rudolph and Marie (Rahn) Grieger. He grew up and attended school in Rosemount. For many years he was involved in farming. Gordon worked at Hudson Manufacturing in Hastings, and later was employed with Merillat Industries in Lakeville. Gordon was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Rich Valley in Rosemount.
Antonette M. "Toni" Laska, age 65, of rural Wabasha, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 25, 2009, in rural Wabasha, Minn. She was born May 18, 1944, in Hastings, Minn., the daughter of Jacob and Rosetta (Wampach) Keller. She lived in Wabasha for a few years in her youth and then moved back to Hastings. She moved back to Wabasha in 1994. She married Robert Laska October 7, 1995, at the Kellogg United Methodist Church. She worked for Valley Craft in Lake City for a few years and for the past five years, she worked for Uni-Patch, now known as Covidien, in Wabasha.
Bruce Gillard, 87, of Dodge Center, died June 30, 2009, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, Minn. Bruce is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Robert (and Kris), Plano, Texas; John (and Gail), Hutchinson, Minn.; James (and Diane), Hastings, Minn.; and David (and Gail), Castle Rock, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; one sister; one granddaughter, Marit; and two sons, Thomas and Richard. The memorial service for Bruce Barton Gillard was held Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, 404 N.
Rev. Charles N. Curtis, age 96, of Waupaca, Wis., passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Bethany Home in Waupaca. He was born in Roscoe, S.D., Nov. 9, 1912, a son of the late Charles and Myrtle (Niles) Curtis. He married Esther Graham Sept. 14, 1933. She preceded him in death on May 10, 1999.
Cheri L. Olson age 52, of Hastings, passed away July 4, 2009. She was born in Elmhurst, Ill., to John and Joan Prediger. In 1970, she moved to Wayzata, Minn., where she medaled in swimming and diving and graduated from high school. After attending college, she was an editor for the Sportsman's Guide. Cheri loved her cats, loved to read and she lived for her pride and joy, her grandson, Eric, who was the light of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Bonnie McCarty.
Edward Wm. Ruhr of Hastings, formerly of Rochester, Inver Grove Heights, Rice Lake, Wis., and Miesville, Minn., died July 1, 2009. He was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Miesville to William and Agnes (Nilan) Ruhr, the third oldest of 11 children. He helped his parents on their farm and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 during WWII. Edward was injured in 1943 in the South Pacific and was returned to the Naval Hospital in Vallejo, Calif., where he married his long-time girlfriend, Mildred (Rosenberger) from Inver Grove Heights, Minn.
