Angeline J. Doerr, age 72, of Hastings, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at her home. Angeline was born in Lake City, Minn. on Oct. 30, 1936, to Edwin and Adelaide H. "Ella" (Tomforde) Niebeling. She married Orville Doerr Sept. 5, 1959, and worked at Smead Mfg.
Mary Ann Rother, age 78, of Welch, died peacefully surrounded by her family on July 30, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Mary Ann was born May 1, 1931, in Hastings to Henry and Mary (Jelinik) Dalaska of Empire, Minn. She was a 1949 graduate of Farmington High School. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Raynard Rother Nov. 22, 1952, at St. John's Catholic Church, Vermillion. In her younger years Mary Ann enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, playing cards, and being with friends.
Jason Douglas Provost, age 35 of Cannon Falls, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning, July 29, 2009, at a friend's home in Sturgeon Lake, Minn. Jason was born on June 7, 1974, in Charleston, S.C., the son of Larry and Janet (Holm) Provost. He was baptized and confirmed at St.
George R. Reul, age 56 of Hastings, passed away July 28, 2009 at his home in Denmark Township. Memorial service Monday, August 3 at 4 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Afton. Shirley J. Samuelson, age 80, of Hastings, passed away July 28, 2009, at the Woodlyn Heights Health Care Center in Inver Grove Heights. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Bertha (Fink) Erickson; husband, Vern; and brother, Clarence. She is survived by daughter Diane Samuelson, St. Paul; sisters, Donna Christiansen of Red Wing and Dorothy Van Voorhis of Granger, Ind.; and nieces and nephews. The funeral service, with the Rev. John Ehlers officiating, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church, 149 S. Eighth Ave., South St.
Joel L. Evans, age 24, of Hastings, died July 22, 2009, at his home. Joel was born November 29, 1984, in Hillsborough County, Fla. He had worked as a kitchen employee in the hospitality industry. His hobbies included fishing and movies, especially the Harry Potter series, and he was a football fanatic.
Ethel L. Schaar, age 93, of Hastings, died July 23, 2009, at the Regina Medical Center. Ethel was born July 4, 1916, in Hastings to Herman and Helen (Rhoma) Keely. She was a 1933 graduate of Hastings High School and married Norman George Otto Schaar June 20, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hastings. She enjoyed embroidery, baking and gardening. Ethel loved her family and was a devoted grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; and brothers, Chuck and Roy Keely.
Thomas Edward Carnel, age 58, of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday afternoon, July 25, 2009, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Tom was born May 22, 1951, in Red Wing, the son of Robert J. and Irene C. (Lynch) Carnel. He grew up in the Cannon Falls area and graduated from the Cannon Falls High School in 1969. He attended Mankato State University, and went to work with the Carlson Company in the travel business. He was a freelance incentive travel director, and enjoyed traveling the world.
Walter C. Holmgren, 89, formerly of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn., passed away Friday, July 10, 2009, at Augustana Care in Hastings. Walter was born July 8, 1920. Walter served in the 3rd Army Div. under Gen. Patton as a squad leader in a motor division (infantry) in the African, European, and Middle Eastern areas from 1942 to 1946 during WWII. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1980. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Sina of Norway and Sweden; brothers, Roy and Dick of Minneapolis; and wife, Anges (Peggy) of St.
Melvin John Bach, 90, of Bay City, Wis., died Thursday, July 16, 2009, at the Ellsworth Care Center. He was born July 10, 1919, in Isabelle Township, Wis., to John and Julia (Bolin) Bach. He attended schools in Hartland Township and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in February of 1941, serving until he was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Irene James May 18, 1946, in Hastings, Minn. They lived in Red Wing and Mazeppa before moving to Bay City in 1948.
