Margaret Eileen Huberty, May 29, 1923 - August 4, 2010. A burial service was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn., at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 9. A reception followed interment at Schaar's Bluff Gathering Place in Hastings. A second reception will be held in Willmar at the Hilltop Shelter on Robbins Island from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 14. Eileen is survived by her children Dennis, David, Paul, Barb, and Brian. Arrangements are being managed by the Wise Family Funeral Home in Hastings, Minn.
Allan "Butch" Shelstad, 71, Hastings, passed away at the Prescott, Wis. nursing home on August 3, 2010. Butch was born on Dec. 11, 1939, in Red Wing, son of Albert and Lucile (Buchholtz.) He graduated from Hastings High School. Butch was a retired state employee and was an executive in the research department of economics for 20 years. He was an avid pool player and cribbage player. Butch, along with his brother Pete, was a Golden Gloves boxing coach from 1969-1973 in Hastings.
Arthur W. Wadena, age 44, of Hastings, passed away on August 2, 2010, at United Hospital. Funeral service, with visitation one hour prior, was August 6 at Kok Funeral Home, St. Paul Park. Interment Newport Cemetery. Visitation and prayer service were held on August 5 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Inez Marie Fick, 96, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Homestead Hospice House. She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Lida Township, the daughter of James and Augusta (Loutzenhiser) Allen. Inez attended country school and Pelican Rapids High School graduating with the class of 1935. She married Raymond J. Fick Dec. 15, 1937, in Fergus Falls. The family lived in Owatonna where she worked at S & L Store and Federated Insurance and later moved to Hastings where she baked at the local nursing home and state hospital. The couple moved back to Owatonna in 1992.
Herman J. Meyers Jr., age 74, of Farmington, passed away on August 3, 2010. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Anna; brothers, George and Jack; sister, Mary; and son Ronald. Survived by longtime companion of 25 years, Grace LaBelle; children, Susan (Steve) Bidwell, Thomas Meyers, John (Terri) Meyers, Carolyn Hyten, Jim (Renee) Meyers and Chad Meyers. The pride of his life was his 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Rita Braun and Lenora Endres, brother, Ken Meyers, many nieces and nephews.
Donald Hanson, age 62, of Cottage Grove, died on Saturday afternoon, July 31, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. Donald Wayne Hanson was born June 15, 1948, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Clyde and Kathleen (Ahlman) Hanson. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Johnson High School in 1966. On June 26, 1970, he was united in marriage with Linda Blakeley at Christ United Methodist Church in St. Paul. Don worked many years for the U.S. Postal Service in Hastings. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; parents, Clyde and Kathleen Hanson; mother-in-law, Marlys Blakely.
Ethel Caroline Geister, age 101, of Prescott, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Prescott Nursing and Rehab. Community. Funeral services for Ethel will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 2, at St. John's UCC, Prescott. Rev. Matt Schnieder Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Pine Glen Cemetery, Prescott. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hill Funeral Home, Prescott, and again for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Carol A. (Johnson-Hunkins) Allen, age 79, of Hastings, passed away on July 28, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Catherine Johnson; brothers, Kenneth, Lloyd, and Carl "Buddy". She will be deeply missed by her children, Amy Cooper, Paul Hunkins (Kathy); grandchildren, Kyle and Meghan; sister in-law, Kitty Johnson; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Richard William Schommer Sr., age 81, died peacefully at his home in Ellsworth on July 28, 2010, surrounded by family. Visitation for friends and family will be from 2-5 p.m. Friday, July 30, at St. Mary's Big River Church in Oak Grove, Township. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. with Fr. Bill Matzek officiating. Interment will be in the church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for St. Mary's building fund are preferred. Adriana T. Anderson, 7 weeks old, died suddenly on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Adriana is survived by her parents, Rebecca and Vincent; grandparents, Dawn and Richard Rowe, Helen and Lee Foster; great-grandparents, Rod and Dorothy Wiltermuth, Marjorie and Vincent O'Leary, and Barb Wiltermuth; also many other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh Street, Hastings, with a visitation held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, and two hours prior to the Thursday service.
