Margaret C. Denn, age 93, formerly of Hastings, died Sept. 23, 2010, at the Burnett Medical Center in Grantsburg, Wis. Margaret was born May 19, 1917, in Hastings, to John and Clare (Steffen) Judge. She married Adolph J. Denn on August 3, 1940, in Hastings.
Kurt J. Hoffman, age 38, of Hastings, passed away Sept. 24, 2010, after a long illness. Kurt was a good father who dearly loved his 7 year old son, Dylan, and his many nieces and nephews. He had a big heart for kids and loved his dog, Sasha.
Mary J. Weiers, age 65, of Hastings, died Sept. 24, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Mary was born July 30, 1945, in Hastings, to Henry and Juanita (Mamer) Bauer. She was a 1963 graduate of Hastings High School and married Robert Weiers on May 5, 1973, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. She was a secretary at Hastings Middle School for 10 years. Mary enjoyed cooking, fishing, and making jewelry. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry; stepfather, Herbert Bauer; and brother, James Bauer.
Dolores M. Kimmes, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died Sept. 22, 2010. Dolores was born March 22, 1920, in Castle Rock Township, to Peter and Margaret (Michels) May. She was a graduate of Loyola Catholic School at Good Counsel in Mankato and married Arthur M. Kimmes Sept. 24, 1941, in Hampton. Dolores was formerly a caterer's assistant, and loved gardening, puzzles, and playing cards.
Marilyn E. Ped, age 74, of Rosemount, died Sept. 22, 2010. Marilyn was born August 26, 1936, in Clayton, Wis., to Robert and Hazel (Westlund) Olson. She grew up on a farm, attended country school, and graduated from Amery High School in 1954. She trained and worked as a nurse at Miller Hospital and graduated from North Park University in 1960. She completed registered nurse training at St. Mary's University. After working as a nurse for over forty years, she retired from United Hospital in 2000. Marilyn married Otto Ped on Sept.
Ervin P. Peine, age 78, of Vermillion, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Ervin was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Empire Township, to Henry Sr. and Margaret (Wollmering) Peine. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School in New Trier and served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Ervin married Lorraine Werner on June 2, 1956, in Hampton.
Timothy R. "Tim" Ortery, age 70, of Prescott, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at his home. He was born in Burlington, Iowa, on August 13, 1940. Tim married Mary Welch in Watertown, S.D. He was an avid outdoorsman. He liked fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. Tim is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Timothy Lee Ortery of Cottage Grove, Harmey Sean (Tammy) Ortery of Hastings, and Patrick (Rebecca) Ortery of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren, Erich, Lily, Michael, and Mackenzie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Violet. A Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m.
Fern G. Bartels, age 82, of Hastings, died Sept. 23, 2010, in Prescott, Wis. Fern was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Red Wing, Minn., to Ralph and Ann (Hilden) Miller. She married Silas L.
Sally J. Kimmes, age 67, of Balsam Lake, Wis., died Sept. 20, 2010. Sally was born May 3, 1943, in Red Wing, Minn., to Irvin and Dorothy (Helmsdorfer) Chapman. She was a graduate of Red Wing High School and took nurses training at the Red Wing Hospital. Sally married Donivan Kimmes on May 9, 1964, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Wing and had worked as a L.P.N. at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing.
Kathy M. Marrison, 61, died Sept. 15, 2010. Kathy Marie (Stuhr) Marrison of River Falls, Wis., died on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn., after a long illness. She was formerly a resident of Hastings, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Michelle Stuhr; and her son Richard. She is survived by three sisters, Marie Lovett of Bushnell, Fla., Cheryl Tucker of Webster, Fla., and Sandra Smith of Wilkison, Wash.; and four step-brothers, Steven Sandburg of Hudson, Wis., Larry Sandburg of St. Paul, Jody Stuhr, and Mike Stuhr.
