D. Bruce Ellingson, age 50, formerly of Palm Springs, Fla., and Hastings, Minn., died Aug. 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Ellingson. He is survived by his parents, Dorothy and Don Ellingson of Hastings, Minn.; sisters Cindy Ellingson of Apple Valley, Minn., and Laurel (George) Johnson of Vadnais Heights, Minn.; and many friends and relatives. Memorial services were held at Honsa Family Funeral Home, White Bear, Minn., Aug. 14, 2009.
Phyllis Heinlein, 77, of Cannon Falls, passed away Saturday morning, Aug. 15, 2009, at the Cannon Falls Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Cannon Falls with the Reverend Jay K. Kythe, officiating. Burial will be in St. Pius Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls, where there will be a 4 p.m. prayer service, and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Phyllis R. Dr. Paul E. Lunde, age 79, a retired Hastings chiropractor, died Aug. 5, 2009, at the Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. Paul was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Willmar, Minn., to Theodore and Evelyn (Olson) Lunde. He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Virginia M. Hecker Sept. 24, 1960, in Hastings.
Leonard Michael Weiss, age 48, of Hastings, formerly of Bloomingdale, N.J., died Sunday, Aug. 9, surrounded by his family, after a five-year battle with colon cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Phyllis Weiss. He is survived by Tara, his wife of 20 years, daughter, Maggie; son, Lenny; brother, Bob (Dawn); nephew, James; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, friends, aunts, uncles and cousins in Minnesota and New Jersey. Lenny grew up in Bloomingdale, and went to college in River Falls, Wis., where he met his future wife, Tara Donohue.
Roy "Lee" Baldwin, age 73, of St. Paul, formerly of Hastings, died Aug. 5, 2009, at Bethel Care Center, St. Paul. He was born June 21, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Roy Lee Sr. and Edith (Hankes) Baldwin. He worked as a dispatcher for Northern States Power/Xcel Energy prior to retirement. Lee was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Pete Baldwin and John Bill Baldwin.
Deloris N. Almquist, age 78, of North Ft. Myers, Fla. died August 3, 2009, at the United Hospital in St. Paul. Deloris was born February 24, 1931, in Woolstock, Iowa, to Clarence and Doris (Myhre) Norcross. She married Richard Almquist July 30, 1966. Deloris was employed as a clerical worker at 3M and Smead Manufacturing prior to her retirement.
Linda C. Parkin, beloved wife and mother, age 64, of Hastings, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 2, 2009 after a long battle with diabetes and kidney disease. Linda was born March 18, 1945, to Alvin and Esther Tiedeman in Red Wing. She married Jerry Parkin in Rochester on April 11, 1970.
Garth Allen Truax, age 48, of Hastings, passed away suddenly at his home, July 30, 2009. The world is blessed with few that leave us after having given so much more than they have taken. The radiance of a life filled with love and kindness will continue to shine on all those he touched. Garth loved life and the biggest part of his life was his fiancée and best friend Danette, his daughters, Tara and Samantha, and Danettes' children, Melissa, Casey and Danielle. Together they formed a strong family, a family that oftentimes worked together and always played together.

Alice R. Benjamin, age 96, of Hastings, died August 1, 2009, at the Regina Nursing Home. Alice was born May 16, 1913, in Randolph, Minn. to Algot and Rosetta Edstrom. She graduated from Randolph High School and the Normal Teaching School in Cannon Falls. Alice married Clinton Benjamin in 1933 and lived the next 76 years in Hastings. She was a substitute elementary school teacher until 1959 when she and her husband bought the Parkway Grocery Store on Maple Street.
