Bernadine Dorothy Eckhart, age 86, of Inver Grove Heights, died suddenly on Sept. 30, 2010. Preceded in death by husband, Ellsworth "Jim" Eckhart; and many brothers and sisters. Survived by son, Dean Eckhart and Robin White; beloved grandchildren, Ryan, Carrie, Cory Eckhart and Jessi Welch; brothers, Alvin "Butch" and Ferrell Blatz and Leroy and Mary Ann Blatz; sisters-in-law, Susie (Alcuin) Blatz and Sabina (Gilbert) Blatz; many nieces and nephews. Eleanore Theodora Miller, Cannon Falls, widow of Melvin Miller, entered into eternal rest Sunday morning, Oct. 10, 2010. Eleanore Theodora Brage, daughter of Robert T. and Ellen C. Carlson Brage, was born June 25, 1916, in Douglas Twp., Dakota County. Eleanore was a graduate of Cannon Falls High School, class of 1934, and the Teachers Training Department, class of 1935.
Elaine Gove, age 75, of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. Elaine was born Feb. 5, 1935, in New Richmond, Wis., to James and Lucille (Ring) Casey. She was a 1953 graduate of New Richmond High School and married Gene Gove on Oct. 3, 1953, in New Richmond.
Kenneth A. Schultz, age 81, of Hastings, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at his home. He was born to Albert and Hulda (Peters) Schultz on Jan. 20, 1929, in Shelby, Iowa, and had served in the Army during the Korean War. Kenneth married Frances Benning on Dec. 30, 1958, in Harlan, Iowa. He had worked at Armour & Co.
Betty Jeanne Ohman, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010. at the Regina Nursing Home of Hastings. She was born to Archie and Clife (Daggett) Nimens on Oct. 28, 1921, in Eau Claire, Wis. Betty was married to Robert Ohman and they were blessed with two children: Rick and Jean. Betty graduated from North High School, Minneapolis, and the U of M. Over the years, Betty became involved with the BPW and was an active member of the Methodist Church of Crookston. Betty enjoyed playing bridge for card clubs and was politically active for the DFL.
Shirley Marie Geister, age 73, of Prescott, passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born in Hastings, Minn., on Dec. 21, 1936, daughter of William and Margaret (Eckert) Fox. Shirley married Vernon Geister at the Prescott United Church of Christ on Sept. 21, 1957, and they spent 53 loving years together. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, especially her flowers and shrubs, nature in general, and loved "fall" colors. Shirley loved taking trips with Vernon to the casino.
Mary M. Carroll, age 86, of Hastings/Rosemount, passed away on Oct. 5, 2010. She was preceded in death by husband, Don, and infant daughter, Therese. Survived by children, Donna (Terry) Stoudt, Maggie (Tom) O'Leary, Kathleen (Ken) Nypan, Helen (John) Carlson, Jim Carroll, Don (Kim) Carroll, Anne Albert, Mary Lou (Scott) Carroll; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Joanne (George) Ostertag; and friend Joe Lenertz. Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Allan Paul Eilen, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th St.
Gary Lee Benson, age 67, a lifelong resident of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at home on Sunday morning, Oct. 3, 2010. The visitation and funeral service will be held at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church, 7459 Hwy 19 Blvd, Cannon Falls. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., with Pastor Gary Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Stanley A. Ramoz, age 79, of Cottage Grove, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul. Mike Rowan, age 59, of Shakopee, formerly of Hastings, died suddenly Sept. 28, 2010, on Spring Lake doing what he loved, preparing for the upcoming duck season. Mike was born August 6, 1951, in Hastings, Minn., to John (Pat) and Margaret (Knoll) Rowan. Survived by his wife, Roxanne; sons, Cody, Pat, Toby, Mikey; daughter, Maggie; mother, Margaret; brothers, Don, Ron (Vickie); sister, Deb (Dave) Nelson; grandchildren, Jason, Kaitlin, Nicholas; and many friends and relatives. A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3, at Kaposia Park, South St.
