Lavina Jane "Vi" Freese, age 89, of Webster, Wis., formerly of Baldwin, Wis., and Hastings, Minn., died on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. Vi was born on July 16, 1921, in Hastings, to parents John and Elizabeth Newman. Vi was a graduate of Hastings High School. On June 22, 1942, in San Francisco, Calif., she would be united in marriage to Ralph LeRoy "Bud" Freese. Vi worked many different clerical jobs in the area, including Northern States Power, First Bank of Baldwin, and with the St. Croix County Ag Stabilization Committee.
Frances T. Carlson, age 82, of Hastings, died Oct. 28, 2010, at her home. Frances was born Aug. 28, 1928, in Hastings, to Francis and Mildred (Bolin) Schmitz. She married Allen J. Carlson on Feb. 20, 1952, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children Mark Carlson, Edward Carlson, and Catherine Van Dyke Lutrell; grandson Luke; and brother Edward. Frances is survived by her children Frank J. Carlson of Washington D.C., Robert A. (Teri) Carlson of Hastings, Paul E. (Deb) Carlson of Hastings, Donald J. Carlson of S. St.
Elizabeth I. (Melby) Hecimovich, age 90, of Hastings, died Oct. 28, 2010, at the Augustana Health Care Center. Beth was born June 23, 1920, in Spicer, Minn., to John and Edna (Erickson) Melby. She was a 1938 graduate of Hastings High School and served as a WAC during WWII.
James E. Taveirne, 59, of Hastings, formerly Kentucky, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, surrounded by his family. A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, Nov. 1, in Hastings. Ethel M. Nicholls, age 86, of Hastings, died Oct. 27, 2010, at Augustana Health Care Center. Ethel was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Warren, Minn., to Kurt and Ruth Olga (Bodell) Malek. She was a graduate of Warren High School and married Harold E. Nicholls on Nov. 26, 1942 in Warren.
Jim "Boldy" Seleski, age 67, of Hastings, an avid hunter and fisher, passed away Oct. 27, 2010, after a 4-year battle with cancer. Jim was born August 25, 1943, in Hastings, to John and Verna Seleski. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Robert, and Steve Seleski; sisters, Dorothy Seleski Harris and Mary Helen Klemz. Jim is survived by his children, Jill (Jay) Miller, Joanne (Pete) Teigland, Jeffery Seleski, and James (Erica) Seleski; grandchildren, Jacob O'Brien, Ben and John Teigland, and Hunter Seleski; special friend, Judy Seleski.
Todd Olson, age 52, of Hastings, formerly of Montevideo, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Fairview-University Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and will also be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday morning. Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo in charge of funeral arrangements for Todd Olson. Todd Michael Olson was born July 11, 1958, in Watertown, S.D. He died Oct.
Arlene J. Hillmer, age 68, of Hastings. Ron and Arlene's fun first date ended on Oct. 24, 2010, after 47 years. Preceded in death by father, Peter Ley. Survived by loving husband, Ron; daughters, Suzanne (David) Kirtz, Lisa (Mike) Schnegelberger; grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Kirtz; brother, Brian (Christine) Ley; sister, Donna (Vernon) Fischer-Williams; four nieces, four nephews. Harriet (Wilson) Norris Alden, age 76, of Hastings, died Oct. 19, 2010, at Regina Memorial Hospital. Harriet was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Hastings, to Floyd and Lillian (Bloomstrand) Wilson. She was married to Jerry Norris in 1958 in Hastings and he died in 1981.
Carroll L. Manning, age 80, of Hastings, died Oct. 21, 2010, at his home. Carroll was born March 4, 1930, in Redwood Falls, Minn., to LeRoy and Fern (Batterson) Manning. He married Barbara Williams on Oct. 20, 1990, in Hastings. Carroll was a man of integrity, with strong traditional values and work ethic. He was a member of the Teamsters and had a 30 year career as a mechanic with Southdale Ford, retiring in 1990. He was a devoted Christian and proud American and Navy veteran, having served our country during the Korean War.
