Joseph J. DeGidio, age 76, of Hastings, passed away at his home in Hastings on Feb. 24, 2010. He was born to John and Mary DeGidio on May 17, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minn. On August 16, 1958, he married Virginia Meyers in Mason City, Iowa. Joseph loved golfing and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as six brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny"; son, Todd DeGidio (Dana Oxley); daughter, Jodi (Monty) Hoffstrom; grandchildren, Christopher and Haley; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
Joanne Marie (Hendel) Hemmah, age 75, of Hastings, and formerly of Red Wing, died on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at her home in Hastings. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, with visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., at the First English Lutheran Church, 511 W. Belle St., Cannon Falls, with Pastor Phillip Ruud officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Red Wing. James J. Hill, age 54, of St. Paul, passed away Feb. 20, 2010, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Gathering will be held 1 hour prior to service at the funeral home. K. Lois McMahon, age 90, passed away Feb. 19, 2010, at the Regina Nursing Home. She is survived by sister, Evelyn (Neil) Gaughan; other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Regina Memorial Chapel, 1175 Nininger Rd., Hastings. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Rudy Esquivel, age 79, passed away on Feb. 18, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. Rudy moved to Minnesota in 2007 and remained there until his death in 2010. He lived with his daughter, Lupe and her family, so he could be closer to his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. He survived for 4 years with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease and dementia. Rudy loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. The funeral services for Rudy will be held in Floresville, Texas. The Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements in Texas, 830-393-0459.
Debra Jo Carlson Schulz, age 53, of Hastings, passed away Feb. 17, 2010, at her home. Debra was born Sept. 27, 1956, in Britton, S.D. to Melvin and Janice Carlson. She married Timothy Schulz in South St. Paul on July 7, 1990. She worked for DARTS from 1984-1997, Midwest of Cannon Falls from 1997-2001, then worked part-time at Red Wing Shoes from 2001-2005. She was an active member in the Hastings Breast Cancer Society and loved gardening and playing pool. She will be sadly missed by her extended Ohana in Hawaii. She was preceded in death by her brother, Dirk.
Rose M. "Tiki" Stevens, age 74, of Hastings, passed away on Feb. 16, 2010. She was born Dec. 24, 1935, to Edward and Rose Seleski. She married Gerald "Spike" Stevens on Sept. 29, 1956. Rose was a retired deputy from the Dakota County Sheriff's Department. She was a member of SEAS Church and choir and a member of the Paper Roses Social Club. She enjoyed traveling, music, card club, and her family and friends. Rose is preceded in death by her son, Jerry Jr.; parents; and seven siblings.
Walter John Glashan, age 63, of Hastings, died Feb. 15, 2010, while vacationing in Scottsdale, Ariz. Wally was born August 5, 1946, in Mankato, Minn., to Iva Elizabeth Murphy and Robert Leo Glashan. Following his 1964 high school graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy. After four years of service, including a year in Vietnam, he returned home to Mankato and enrolled at Minnesota State University Mankato, graduating in 1973 with a degree in business. Wally was united in marriage to Gail Bonita Hokanson on March 27, 1971, at Campus Lutheran Chapel, Mankato.
Dorothy D. (Holman) Hertogs, age 50, of Hastings, died Feb. 12, 2010 following a lengthy illness. Her survivors include son, Alex, and daughter, Becca; two sisters; one brother; other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Frederick Coe Anderegg, 93, formerly of Hastings, died Feb. 5, 2010, in Dearborn, Mich. He lived with integrity, unpretentiousness and kindness to all. He grew up in Ohio, graduating with a degree in chemistry from Otterbein College in 1940. He served in the Army during WWII as a radio corpsman in the South Pacific. Fred and Lois Carmen were married in 1946 and settled in Hastings in 1954 to raise their five children. Fred worked at the petroleum processing plant as a chemist and environmental engineer for 30 years. Fred was active in ALL aspects of life.
