Jerome Rooney Jerome "Jerry" Rooney, age 88, of Hastings, passed away at his home on April 12, 2010. He was born on Sept. 6, 1921, to Edward and Cecilia Rooney in Owatonna, Minn. Jerry married Miriam (Carlblom) on June 12, 1971, in Hastings. He is a World War II veteran and the past commander of the American Legion (1962).
Helen L. Emrick, age 94, of Hastings, passed away at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community on April 11, 2010. Private family services will be held. The Wise Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mary P. Sartor, age 90, of Nerstrand, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at home following a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Faribault. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday for one hour prior to the services at the church. Mary Petronella Reuvers, the daughter of Wilhelmus and Cornelia Alberta (Loeffen) Reuvers, was born on March 11, 1920, in Wijchen, Holland.
Dr. Joseph K. Kugler, age 77, a retired Hastings dentist, died April 7, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. Joe was born April 14, 1932, to Joseph and Gertrude (Kirby) Kugler in St. Paul, Minn. He graduated from Cretin High School in St. Paul, received a B.S. from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., and received his D.D.S. from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He married Jill (Harbin) in 1959 in Manistique, Mich. Joe was a caring and talented dentist for 30 years in Hastings. He was a loyal friend to many, an avid historian, and loved the outdoors.
Rosalie C. Hanson, age 80, of Hastings, died April 9, 2010, at the Regina Assisted Living in Hastings. Rosalie was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Gentilly, Minn., to Armand and Lisa (Corbin) Amiot. She married Duane Hanson on Nov. 8, 1947, in East Grand Forks, Minn., and was a former Hudson Mfg. employee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane; and nine brothers. Rosalie is survived by her children, Gary (Molly) Hanson of Hastings, Darroyl (Diana) Hanson of Maplewood, Roger (Jackie) Hanson of South St.
Nancy M. Freiermuth, age 70, of Hastings, passed away at United Hospital in St. Paul on April 10, 2010. She was born Dec. 12, 1939, in Hastings to Gordon and Caroline Wilson. Nancy married James Freiermuth Oct. 24, 1959, in St. Paul Park.
Jean Marie Tefft, 64, of Hastings, formerly of Red Wing, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at her residence. She was born July 26, 1945, in St. Paul, Minn., the daughter of Oscar S. and Rowena M. (VonBargen) Finne. She attended school through grade 7 in Red Wing and graduated from Hastings High School. She received a two-year degree in secretarial studies from the Red Wing Vocational Technical School and a two-year degree from a beauty school in St. Paul. She married James Severson in November 1965.
Linda Marie (Moes) Keapproth, beloved daughter, sister and friend, age 57, passed away surrounded by family. Preceded in death by father, Clarence C. Moes. Survived by mother, Madeline Moes (Salzl); brother, Clarence T. "Ted" (Ivy) Moes of California; sisters, Dorothy (Larry) Haas, Kathryn (Keith) Govednik and Laura Moes; many nieces, nephew, and special friend, Jack Olsen. Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at Anderson Funeral Home, 1401 Arcade St. (Hwy 61), St. Paul, with visitation starting at 1 p.m.
Joseph "Joe" Jensen, age 56, was known for his unending love for his family and friends. Joe passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in his home in Dairyland, Wis. Joe was born in Red Wing, Minn., to Aloyed and Margaret Jensen on August 22, 1953. He and his family moved to Hastings, Minn., where he spent the rest of his childhood. Joe graduated from Hastings High School in 1971, where he was elected class president by his classmates.
Donald Louis Kusilek, age 64, died suddenly April 3, 2010, at his home in Hastings, Minn. He was born January 15, 1946, to Mabel Filkins and H. "Heavy" Van Shlyke in Hastings. Donald was a graduate of Hastings High School and served in the United States Army as a cook. He was employed at Armor's as a meat cutter and later owned a bar on Vermillion Street in Hastings for a short time. He was a member of the American Legion Club and Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Louis and Theresa Filkins; father, George Kusilek; mother, Mabel (Filkins) Kusilek.
