Lois C. Terry, age 77, of Hastings, died May 21, 2010, at White Pines Assisted Living in Cottage Grove. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at Christ Family Church, 518 E. 2nd St., Hastings. Albin "Jake" Jacobson Jr., age 80, a resident of Siren, died May 19, 2010, in Rochester, Minn. Jake was born on March 14, 1930, in Rochester, to Albin and Dora Jacobson, Sr. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Anita Thompson on June 24, 1950, in Rochester. Jake enjoyed being outdoors and taking in the wildlife. He liked watching birds, especially the bald eagles which are abundant in this area. He took time to go fishing, hunting and to play golf whenever he had the chance.
Roger A. Ableidinger, age 65, of Hastings, formerly of Durand, Wis., died Thursday, May 20, 2010. He was born July 5, 1944 in Durand to Lee and Annabell (Schuh) Ableidinger. Roger was employed as an HVAC and had retired from Peine Plumbing and Heating. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Elgene and Myron Ableidinger. Roger is survived by his wife, Susan (Sorenson) Ableidinger; beloved dog, Snickers; children, Kurt (Karen) Ableidinger, Karen (Keith) Johnson, Kris (Jamie) Winkler; also seven grandchildren and numerous siblings. Lloyd "LeRoy" Hanson, age 76, of Hastings, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010. Lloyd was born Jan. 4, 1934, in New Richmond, Wis., to Lloyd H. and Lillian (Berquam) Hanson. He married Darleen Holland June 29, 1957 at Scheie Lutheran Chruch in Mabel, Minn. Prior to his retirement Lloyd was an engineer at 3M. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Donnie.
Gregory Schaefer, age 83, of Augustana Homes of Hastings, formerly of Newport, died on May 13, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 24, with gathering at 10 a.m., at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley, St. Paul Park. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Jerome James "Jerry" Asher, of Lelia Lake, Texas, Oct. 19, 1935 - Feb. 7, 2010. Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Beth Asher; brother, Donald, Feb. 2, 1990; sister, Theresa Griffin, Dec. 13, 2003; and a great-granddaughter, Trinity Grace Brogdon. Kenneth Truax, age 75, of Hastings, passed away May 17, 2010, in hospice at Regina. He was born to Richard and Mathilda on August 7, 1934, in Hastings. He married Leota Winberg on June 16, 1956, in St. Paul Park. He retired from Ramsey County Juvenile and Family Court where he served as a referee for 20 years.
Leona Marie (nee Harmon) Schmitt, age 86, of Hastings, formerly of Plum City, Wis., passed away May 15, 2010. Preceded in death by husband, George; son Norbert, great-grandson John Henry; and nine siblings. Survived by children, Marlyce, Duane (Lana), Steven, David, Dan (Sara); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother Cecil; sister Dianne; and many family and friends. Memorial Mass 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior. Private interment at a future date at Plum City Cemetery.
Cindy J. Haugley, age 54, of Hastings, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Regina Medical Center. Cindy was born Feb. 22, 1956, in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Arvilla E. Steuernagel, age 96, of Maplewood and formerly of Hastings, died Saturday, May 15, 2010. Arvilla was born Sept. 21, 1913, in St. Charles, Minn., to William and Elizabeth (Bohne) Barr. She married Marvin Steuernagel on June 7, 1936, in Lewiston. She had taught nursery school. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and five siblings. Arvilla is survived by her sons, Gerald (Kathy) Steuernagel of Dresser, Wis., and Richard (Paula) Steuernagel of Eau Claire, Wis.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
