Harry Raymond Exner, 19, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, in Denver, Colo. He was born on May 11, 1991, in Red Wing to Harry and Renae (Franklin) Exner. He graduated from Red Wing High School in 2009. He moved to Aurora, Colo., and attended Anthem College to pursue a degree in X-ray technology. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed snowboarding, playing hockey, riding his dirt bike and motocross, competing in races the past three years. He lived life to the fullest.
Dan D. Duray, 78, of Nora Springs, Iowa, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at his residence. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, Iowa, with Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Sandra J. "Sandy" Reuter, age 44, of Hastings, died Dec. 7, 2010, at her home, with her family at her side, after a courageous battle with juvenile diabetes. Sandra was born Dec. 9, 1965, in Hastings to Charles and Lucille (Radke) Reuter.
Edwin John Sieben, 1928-2010, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Nov. 30, 2010. Survived by loving wife, Dorothy; sons, Gary (Susan), Mike (Tammie); daughters, Jean Sieben and Laurie (Chris) Pacheco; grandchildren, Tracy, Zack, Dustin, Luke, Cody, Ryan, Mackenzie, Brooks, and Colten; great-grandchildren, Abriana, Grace, Deja, Brooklyn, Payton, and Melody. Lived a full life as a Teamster and 49ers Union in the road construction field. He also served over 25 years with the Hastings Police Reserve, including his last few years as the reserve captain.
Allen Lee "Al" Wolf, age 71, of Cloverton, Minn., passed away Nov. 30, 2010, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Tim Faust, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Zion Lutheran Church, RR2, in Markville, Minn. Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Hazel Siders, age 93, died Nov. 24, 2010, in Hastings, Minn., where she has resided for the past 10 years. Hazel is remembered and mourned by her daughter, Audrey (Gene Andersen) Sun City West, Ariz.; grandchildren, Patricia Grossbach, Hastings, and Greg Andersen, California; great-grandchildren, Nicolis Grossbach and Garrett Andersen. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Hollmann, Minneapolis, Minn. Hazel's funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Hartford United Methodist Church in Hartford, S.D. Visitation will start at noon at the church.
Mary Helen Becker, nee Simerson, age 50, born March 27, 1960, died Nov. 20, 2010. Preceded in death by father, Richard Simerson. Survived by husband of 27 years, Ronald Becker; children, Emily, Charlie, Abigail and Madeline; parents, Marilyn and John Young; siblings, Margaret Schultz (Tom), Michael Simerson, Patsy Simerson-Walfred (Tom), Florence Manley, Jack Simerson and Ann Simerson; daughter-in-law of LaVerne and Dorothy Becker of Hastings. Mary's 21 nieces and nephews all meant the world to her.
Verneil Phyllis Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24 at Regina Medical Center in Hastings. Active for many years in volunteer work with the VFW, the Am. Legion, and Regina Hospital Auxiliaries, as well as other volunteer work in Hastings, she will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Born Nov. 23, 1927, to Seth and Nina (Fredrickson) Bremseth in Red Wing, she married Edward "Jim" Thomas on Aug. 2, 1947.
Sue Bunker, 82, passed away on Nov. 20, 2010, at her home in Hastings, Minn. She was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Burlington, Iowa, to Ernest and Millicent Hicklin Winter of Wapello, Iowa, where she grew up and graduated from Wapello High School with the class of 1946. She went on to graduate from the University of Iowa in 1951 where she met her husband Harry S. "Bud" Bunker Jr. They were married on Feb. 3, 1951, and had four children. After several years in Iowa and Colorado, in 1964 they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where Sue was a long-time real estate broker and appraiser.
Donald D. Swanson, 78, of Hastings, and formerly of Red Wing, passed away Nov. 18, at the Minneapolis Veteran Administration Medical Center. Don was born on Nov. 14, 1932, to Clarence and Margaret (Goldsmith) Swanson in Red Wing. He proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Whiteside as an electrician mate. Don was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion and the DAV. On Jan. 30, 1954, Don married Betty Anderson in Red Wing and later was blessed with five children: Donald, Barbara, Brenda, Derald, and Bonita.
