Ruby V. Thompson, age 87, of Hastings, died July 10, 2010, at Augustana Health Care Center. Ruby was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Lindford, Minn., to Conrad and Emma (Lindvall) Pearson. She had worked as a bookkeeper and married Irving Thompson on May 24, 1950 in Ladysmith, Wis.
Arnold A. Kimmes, age 75, of Hastings, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Arnold was born July 16, 1934, in Welch to Matt and Marie (Schiller) Kimmes. He married Lorraine Reinardy on May 14, 1955, in New Trier. Arnold loved golf, playing cards, fishing, and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #87. His skills as a master carpenter were appreciated by many family members and friends, never hesitating to help whenever his skills were needed.
Larry D. Strehlow, age 60, of Burnsville, formerly of Hastings, died Monday, June 28, 2010. Larry was born Oct. 11, 1949, in Perham, Minn., to Albert and Esther (Lubitz) Strehlow. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry is survived by his four sisters, Rosella (Gene) Limon of Loveland, Colo., Betty (Richard) Aschenbrener of Hastings, Nancy (Richard) Janssen of Denver, Colo., and Renae (Floyd) Flack of Westminster, Calif.; also nieces and nephews. The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Percy J. Damrow, will be held at 11 a.m.
Mary (Ruhr) Kranz, 87, of Shore Acres Avenue, passed away July 9, 2010, at the Scallop Shell Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wakefield, R.I. She was the wife of the late Cmdr. Arthur C. Kranz, USN (Ret.). Born in Hastings, Minn., she was the adopted daughter and only child of the late Martin and Hazel (Wood) Ruhr. Mrs. Kranz received a B.S. in English from the College of St. Catherine in 1944. Mrs. Kranz raised six children as the spouse of a career military officer. She received her master's degree in counseling at the age of 64 from the University of Rhode Island.
Helen May Fairfield Petersen, age 88, of Minneapolis, recently living in Hastings, died Saturday, July 10, 2010. Was preceded in death by loving husband, Allan D., and son, Allan D. Jr. Survived by daughters, Jeanne (Rick) Walsh and Lynne (Denny) McNamara; son, Jim (Stef) Petersen; daughter-in-law, Peggy Koshenina; sister, Doris (Dan) Bornkamp; grandchildren, Jenny, Eric, Andy, Elias, Emily, Mike, Brian; and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Drew, Bostin, Ryann, and Alaina. Helen, the daughter of M. C. and Mamie Fairfield, was born March 24, 1922, in St Paul, Minn.
Alice Arlene Barnhart, age 70, of Red Wing, formerly of Prescott, died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Fairview Seminary Home in Red Wing. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 12, at Joy Lutheran Church in Prescott with Reverend Amy Fondroy Eich officiating. Interment will be in Diamond Bluff Cemetery with Trevor, Tatyana, Scott, Terry, Tony, and Sarah as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Hill Funeral Home in Prescott and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at church. Sydney Lynn Wagner, infant daughter of John and Abby (Torgerson) Wagner of Vermillion, Minn., died June 24, 2010. Survivors include her parents; brother, Cooper; grandparents, John and Pam Wagner of Hampton and Steve and Kay Torgerson of Austin, Minn.; also other family members. A funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader, was held Monday, June 28, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Betty Jean Keetley, age 75, of Hastings, died June 25, 2010, at her home. Betty Jean was born July 11, 1934, in Lake Benton, Minn., to Peter and Rosella (LaBounty) Bruhn. She married Francis Keetley on Oct. 17, 1953, in Columbia Heights and had worked as an account clerk for the State of Minnesota. Betty Jean was an active volunteer in the community and loved to both sew and crochet.
Harold Elmer Williamson, 81, of Red Wing, died Saturday, June 26, at his residence at Potter Ridge. He was born on Jan. 4, 1929, in Hastings, Minn., to Robert and Helen (Hagedorn) Williamson. He attended school in Hastings and then served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 22, 1951, to Jan. 21, 1953, during the Korean Conflict. On July 20, 1952, he married Donna Baringer in Red Wing. He farmed in the Welch and Red Wing area for many years. After retirement, he and Donna traveled in their motor home from 1994-2004 visiting all 50 states. Donna died on Oct. 12, 2004.
