Mary Lou Langer, 77, Ellsworth, Wis., born Sept. 13, 1932, Ellsworth, died August 9, Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings, Minn. Graduated Ellsworth High School, 1949; State Teachers College of River Falls, 1951, 2 year degree in rural education; University of Wisconsin, River Falls, 1973, Bachelor of Science, elementary education. In 1951, her first teaching job was at the 8th grade Fischer School, southeast of Ellsworth. In 1955, she began teaching at the Vermillion School, including a principalship position until her last year there in 1959.
Liam Wallace McNaughton, infant son of Shane and Sarah McNaughton, and brother of Runic McNaughton, all of Newport News, Va., died on Saturday, August 7, 2010. Jacob S. "Jake" Benesh, age 22, of Stillwater, passed away suddenly as a result of a motorcycle accident on August 6, 2010. A Celebration of Jake's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, at Rockpoint Church, 5825 Kelvin Ave. N. (Hwy 36 and Keats), Lake Elmo, Minn. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard (NW corner of Hwy 36 &Co Rd 5), Stillwater, and one hour prior to celebration at church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcomed to family to support Jake's passions.
Frank Van De Steeg, an avid outdoorsman, age 94, of Hastings, passed away August 7, 2010, at Augustana Health Care Center in Hastings. He was born Oct. 29, 1915, to Frank and Madonna Van De Steeg in Sauk Centre. Frank married Lorrayne (Gerlach) in Bloomington on Nov. 8, 1941. He loved hunting, fishing, his dogs, and was very active in Boy Scouting.
Margaret Eileen Huberty, May 29, 1923 - August 4, 2010. A burial service was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minn., at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 9. A reception followed interment at Schaar's Bluff Gathering Place in Hastings. A second reception will be held in Willmar at the Hilltop Shelter on Robbins Island from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 14. Eileen is survived by her children Dennis, David, Paul, Barb, and Brian. Arrangements are being managed by the Wise Family Funeral Home in Hastings, Minn.
Allan "Butch" Shelstad, 71, Hastings, passed away at the Prescott, Wis. nursing home on August 3, 2010. Butch was born on Dec. 11, 1939, in Red Wing, son of Albert and Lucile (Buchholtz.) He graduated from Hastings High School. Butch was a retired state employee and was an executive in the research department of economics for 20 years. He was an avid pool player and cribbage player. Butch, along with his brother Pete, was a Golden Gloves boxing coach from 1969-1973 in Hastings.
Arthur W. Wadena, age 44, of Hastings, passed away on August 2, 2010, at United Hospital. Funeral service, with visitation one hour prior, was August 6 at Kok Funeral Home, St. Paul Park. Interment Newport Cemetery. Visitation and prayer service were held on August 5 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Inez Marie Fick, 96, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Homestead Hospice House. She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Lida Township, the daughter of James and Augusta (Loutzenhiser) Allen. Inez attended country school and Pelican Rapids High School graduating with the class of 1935. She married Raymond J. Fick Dec. 15, 1937, in Fergus Falls. The family lived in Owatonna where she worked at S & L Store and Federated Insurance and later moved to Hastings where she baked at the local nursing home and state hospital. The couple moved back to Owatonna in 1992.
Herman J. Meyers Jr., age 74, of Farmington, passed away on August 3, 2010. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Anna; brothers, George and Jack; sister, Mary; and son Ronald. Survived by longtime companion of 25 years, Grace LaBelle; children, Susan (Steve) Bidwell, Thomas Meyers, John (Terri) Meyers, Carolyn Hyten, Jim (Renee) Meyers and Chad Meyers. The pride of his life was his 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Rita Braun and Lenora Endres, brother, Ken Meyers, many nieces and nephews.
