A memorial service for Maxine M. Nelson, 92, of Rochester, Minn., will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with the Rev. Linda K. Lund officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Maxine Minerva Rogers was born on May 6, 1918, in Rochester, to Robert and Helen (Schmidt) Rogers. She died on Nov. 18, 2010, at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings, Minn. Maxine graduated from Rochester High School in 1935. On May 19, 1940, she married Roy B.
Danial Barclay Bowles, 65, passed away after his courageous fight against cancer in St. Paul, Minn., last Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010. Danial was born April 27, 1945, in Norfolk, Va., to Burl and Ola (Robertson) Bowles.
Don L. Jorgensen, age 76, of Hastings, passed away on Nov. 16, 2010, at his home, after a long struggle with cancer. Don was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Farmington, to Melvin and Helen (Dilly) Jorgensen. He married Patricia Kane on Jan. 16, 1954, in Iowa. Don was a self-employed drywall contractor for 40 years. Don's son Steve was his business partner for 20 years. After retiring, Don moved with his devoted wife Pat to Tucson, Ariz., for 9 years of fun in the sun, returning to Hastings in 2006. Don enjoyed his family, especially being together at the holidays.
Mary Kingston Enney, age 85, of Woodbury, formerly of Hastings, died Nov. 16, 2010, at her home. Mary was born April 24, 1925, in St. Paul, to Byron and Marie (McCarty) Kingston. She was a 1943 graduate of Hastings High School and married George Enney on Aug. 23, 1952, at Guardian Angels Church in Hastings. She was a former employee of 3M, Midway Hospital in St.
Janet T. Fox, age 90, of Miesville, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at Regina Assisted Living in Hastings. Janet was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Miesville, to Isadore and Anna (Boser) Fox. She had worked for Smead Manufacturing for 65 years prior to retirement. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Irene Kimmes, Helen Sorenson; and nephew Allen Bauer. Her brother Donald Fox of Cannon Falls died Nov. 14, 2010. Surviving relatives include her nephews, Daniel (Diane) Sorenson of Arizona, Randy (Claudia) Sorenson of Maryland, Perry (Laurel) Bauer of Columbia Heights, and Donald Jr.
Jimmy L. Blount Sr., age 75, of Hastings, died on Nov. 12, 2010, from complications of lung cancer and following a 9-year struggle after a stroke. Jimmy was born Oct. 8, 1935, in Bonham, Texas, to Hatten David and Lillian Lorelle (Cox) Blount. He married Phyllis Richardson on April 9, 1958, in Dallas, Texas, and was formerly employed at Braniff Airlines and retired from Dakota County Parks, where he worked at Lake Byllesby. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; and survived by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Lorrie (Lynn) Tillman of Springtown, Texas; son, Jim Blount Jr.
Jon Charles Burvee, beloved husband, father, son, brother, age 55, died on Sunday, Nov.
Helen Catherine Daley, 96, of Welch, died Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park. She was born April 23, 1914, to Alvin and Caroline (Schaffer) Olson of Welch. She attended rural school and graduated in 1931 from Red Wing High School and in 1932 from Red Wing Teacher Training Department. After teaching for 5 years in rural schools, she married Freeman Daley Sept. 11, 1937. She lived her entire life in the Welch area. Freeman died Oct. 16, 1980. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and active in local projects.
Charles W. "Chuck" Cragoe, age 78, of Hastings, formerly of Bloomington, died Nov. 7, 2010, at his home. He was born to Charles and Garnet (Hetrick) Cragoe on Sept. 6, 1932, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. On Oct. 22, 1955, in Luverne, Minn., he married Doris Forrester from Sterling, Va. Chuck was employed by Durkee Atwood Co. in Minneapolis. The company moved to Red Wing and became Dayco, from where he retired after 45 years of employment. After retirement, he and Doris volunteered as computer tutors at the Regina Assisted Living facility in Hastings.
James E. Dowell, 79, Red Wing, died Monday, Nov. 8, at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Evansville, Ind., the son of Alvin and Catherine (Reichert) Dowell. He was a 1949 graduate of Evansville High School and he served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he married Orena Georgene Bond in Mount Vernon, Ind., on Aug. 21, 1954. He lived and worked in various cities in the U.S. as a master plumber, pipefitter, steamfitter and welder in the construction of power plants. They moved to Hastings in 1971.
