Edna M. Ohmann, age 98, of Hastings, died Jan. 17, 2011, at Regina Nursing Home. Edna was born June 6, 1912, on the home farm in Rich Valley to Walter and Eleanor (Schaar) Volkert. She married Fred Ohmann on June 12, 1937. They were lifelong farmers near Coates and cared for five foster children. Edna was a lifelong member of St.
Columbus G. Freiermuth, age 85, of Hastings, died of cancer on Jan. 15, 2011. Columbus was born Sept. 23, 1925, in Hastings, to Columbus and Mary (Biskupski) Freiermuth. He married Rose Marie Girgen on Oct. 22, 1947, in Coates. Columbus was self-employed in the construction industry and enjoyed building houses and playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents; son David; and great-grandchildren Chris, Hannah, and Cody.
Kenneth W. Reese, age 95, of Hastings, died Jan. 11, 2011, at his home. Kenneth was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Cady, Wis., to William and Millie (Barfknecht) Reese. He married Dorothy Trapp on Oct. 19, 1935, in Woodville, Wis. Kenneth was a WWII Navy veteran and a life member of the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210.
Aleeza J. Saande, age 19, of Hastings, died accidentally due to an automobile accident on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011. Aleeza was born Dec. 2, 1991, in Minneapolis, to Daniel and MaryLynn (Langlais) Saande. She was full of joy and compassion and had an infectious enthusiasm for life. She embraced family and friends as a center of her purpose in life. Aleeza loved family trips to the mountains and lakes. She loved soccer, water sports, snow sports and 4-wheeling. Aleeza's love for the Lord and her passion for sharing that love were a hallmark of her life.
Josie R. Evans, age 24, of Hastings, died Jan. 5, 2011, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis, and her brother Joel. Josie is survived by her mother, Jeannie Evans of Hastings; her brothers Jeremy, Joshua, and Levi Evans, all of Hastings; her sisters, Heidi Evans of Hastings, Katie Evans of Alabama, and Kasilu Evans of Hastings. The funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Allan Paul Eilen, was held Jan. 8 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Clifford L. Keetley, age 85, passed away Jan. 5, 2011, at the IOOF Home in Mason City, Iowa. Clifford was born Sept. 22, 1925. He retired from Armours in South St. Paul. Services were held on Jan. 9, 2011.
Cheryl E. Murtaugh, age 65, of Hastings, passed away Jan. 8, 2011, at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood. She was born Jan. 10, 1945, to Isadore and Ophelia Huberty in Hastings. She married Lawrence Murtaugh on Aug. 19, 1967, in Hastings at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Cheryl worked as a nurse at Regina and Augustana.
Margaret Mary Kemp, age 74, of St. Paul Park. Survived by loving husband, David; sons, Timothy (Jeanette), Jeffrey (Callie), Joel, and David E. (Wendy); daughters, Pamela (Jim) Warmboe, Robin Kemp; sisters, Judy (Lou) Giefer, Norma (Earl) Johnson; brother, Roger Dalaska; also 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lorraine B. Swanson, age 84, of Hastings, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Regina Nursing Home. Lorraine was born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Hastings, to Henry and Ida (Lynn) Samuelson. She married Lloyd B. Swanson on June 6, 1948, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch. Lorraine was a 1944 graduate of Hastings High School and attended teacher's training in Red Wing. She taught in a one-room school on Prairie Island for 2 years prior to her marriage to Lloyd. Lorraine was a member of the Eastern Star-Electra Chapter, and Our Saviour's Ev.
