Meribeth Ann Kolehma, age 83, of Hastings, passed away peacefully at home on April 16, 2011, surrounded by family, from complications of lung cancer. Meribeth was born April 3, 1928, in Virginia, Minn., and was a longtime resident of Hastings. After her retirement from Dakota County, she served as a volunteer over the years at Regina Hospital, Hastings Veteran's Home, Hastings Senior Center, and Hastings Family Service. She was also an animal lover, always sharing her house with a cat(s) and/or dog. She will be greatly missed.
John P. Fox, age 48, of Hastings, passed away suddenly of a heart attack on April 17, 2011. He was the founder and owner of Precision Landscaping of Hastings for 30 years, "making Hastings beautiful one lawn at a time." He was born in Hastings on Sept. 14, 1962, to Reinold "Knob" and Pat Fox. John married Mary (Betzel) in Big River, Wis., on Dec. 29, 1990. John loved his family and lived his life to the fullest.
Doris M. Williams, age 89, of Hastings, passed away April 14, 2011. She was born June 23, 1921, in Lake Bronson, Minn., to Carl and Christine (Hammerback) Sandahl. Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, James Girvan and Norman "Bud" Williams; son Roger Girvan; parents, Carl and Christine Sandahl; sister Grace; brothers, Allan and Gordon. Virginia Rasch, (nee Nelson), age 91. Lifelong resident of Hastings. Preceded in death by daughter, Roberta. Orin C. Knoblauch (Cap), age 72, of Phoenix, Ariz., died at home in his sleep on April 11, 2011. He was born May 15, 1938, in Prescott, Wis., to Clarence and Blanche (Wolf) Knoblauch. He attended Sunnyside grade school and graduated from Prescott High School with the class of 1956. In 1981 he married Mary (Conzemius) Lichtscheidl in Las Vegas and later moved to Phoenix, Ariz.
Richard A. Truax, 86, passed away April 15, 2011. He was the husband of the late Betty A. (Marek) Truax. Born in Hastings, Minn., on Sept. 23, 1924, he was the son of the late Richard P. and Mathilda Truax. He was also preceded in death by brothers Caleb, Keith, Sheldon, Kenneth, and David Truax, as well as sisters-in-law Elizabeth, Joan, and Ann Truax. He is survived by his son and wife, Neil and Mary Ann Truax, and grandchildren, Laura Ann Marie, Andrew Neil, and Richard Frank.
June Constance Belle Ista, age 81, of Hampton, was unexpectedly called home to be with God on Thursday evening, April 14, 2011, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at the First English Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, with Pastors Phillip Ruud and Daniel Forsgren officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls.
Helen M. Simning, age 70, of Hastings, passed away April 15, 2011, peacefully, at home surrounded by family, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Preceded in death by parents, Robert and Clarissa Strand, and brother, Henry Strand. She is survived by her children, John (Marcia), Christine (special friend Stephen Flor); sisters, Alice (Mark Tarner) Strand and Billie (Tom) Barthelemy; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Helen's life will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the American Legion Post 47, 50 Sibley Street in Hastings.
Donald G. Stern, age 81, of Hastings, died April 11, 2011, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. Donald was born Aug. 27, 1929, in Hastings, to Gerald and Margaret (Kordosky) Stern. He was a 1948 graduate of Hastings High School and served in the Air Force as an Airman First Class during the Korean War. Donald married Helen Johnson on June 30, 1951, in River Falls, and worked as a head operator at 3-M prior to retirement.
Catherine M. Eilen, age 85, of Hampton, passed away on April 9, 2011, at the Trinity Care Center in Farmington. Catherine cooked the hot lunch meals at St. Mathias School for many years while also catering many weddings. She also was a part-time assistant clerk at the Hampton post office for many years.
