Ethel M. Nicholls, age 86, of Hastings, died Oct. 27, 2010, at Augustana Health Care Center. Ethel was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Warren, Minn., to Kurt and Ruth Olga (Bodell) Malek. She was a graduate of Warren High School and married Harold E. Nicholls on Nov. 26, 1942 in Warren.
Jim "Boldy" Seleski, age 67, of Hastings, an avid hunter and fisher, passed away Oct. 27, 2010, after a 4-year battle with cancer. Jim was born August 25, 1943, in Hastings, to John and Verna Seleski. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Robert, and Steve Seleski; sisters, Dorothy Seleski Harris and Mary Helen Klemz. Jim is survived by his children, Jill (Jay) Miller, Joanne (Pete) Teigland, Jeffery Seleski, and James (Erica) Seleski; grandchildren, Jacob O'Brien, Ben and John Teigland, and Hunter Seleski; special friend, Judy Seleski.
Todd Olson, age 52, of Hastings, formerly of Montevideo, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Fairview-University Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Visitation was Wednesday evening at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and will also be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Thursday morning. Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Montevideo in charge of funeral arrangements for Todd Olson. Todd Michael Olson was born July 11, 1958, in Watertown, S.D. He died Oct.
Arlene J. Hillmer, age 68, of Hastings. Ron and Arlene's fun first date ended on Oct. 24, 2010, after 47 years. Preceded in death by father, Peter Ley. Survived by loving husband, Ron; daughters, Suzanne (David) Kirtz, Lisa (Mike) Schnegelberger; grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla Kirtz; brother, Brian (Christine) Ley; sister, Donna (Vernon) Fischer-Williams; four nieces, four nephews. Harriet (Wilson) Norris Alden, age 76, of Hastings, died Oct. 19, 2010, at Regina Memorial Hospital. Harriet was born Feb. 4, 1934, in Hastings, to Floyd and Lillian (Bloomstrand) Wilson. She was married to Jerry Norris in 1958 in Hastings and he died in 1981.
Carroll L. Manning, age 80, of Hastings, died Oct. 21, 2010, at his home. Carroll was born March 4, 1930, in Redwood Falls, Minn., to LeRoy and Fern (Batterson) Manning. He married Barbara Williams on Oct. 20, 1990, in Hastings. Carroll was a man of integrity, with strong traditional values and work ethic. He was a member of the Teamsters and had a 30 year career as a mechanic with Southdale Ford, retiring in 1990. He was a devoted Christian and proud American and Navy veteran, having served our country during the Korean War.
Andrew "Drew" James Lambert Jr., age 7, of Rosemount, went to heaven on Oct. 23, 2010. He was born August 30, 2003, in Austin, Texas, where he lived for 18 months. Drew and his family lived in Portland, Ore., for 4-1/2 years before moving to Minnesota. Drew was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams were the Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed being outside, boat rides, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Mary M. Palm, age 79, of Hastings died Oct. 19, 2010. Mary was born March 3, 1931, in Ridgeland, Wis., to William and Grace (Stillwell) Kaiser. She married John H. Palm Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Mary had been employed with Smead Mfg. prior to retirement. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, John; brothers Roy, Harry, and Jerry; sister Elsie. Mary is survived by her daughters, Darlene (Todd) Nemitz of South St.
Dorothy Powell, 97, of Waseca, Minn., died Oct. 18, 2010, in Le Center, Minn., of natural causes. She was born Jan. 4, 1913, in Owatonna, Minn., to Anna and Louis Hudrlik. She taught at country schools, Waseca public schools, and Catholic schools.
John Victor Viren D.V.M., 78, of Two Harbors, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, surrounded by his family. He was born Oct. 27, 1931, to Edward and Viola (Palmquist) Viren in Duluth. He grew up in Duluth and graduated from Central High School in 1949. John attended Bethel College and UMD before enlisting in the Marine Corps. He served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan and Hawaii. After his return, he attended the University of Minnesota Veterinary College, graduating in 1962.
