Genevieve Wimer, age 97, of Hastings, died Dec. 29, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. Genevieve was born on a farm near Frankfort, S.D., the daughter of William and Oni Valder, on Nov. 12, 1913. She received her education at Frankfort High School and Aberdeen Business College. Her marriage to Glenn Wimer took place Nov. 16, 1939, in Washington D.C., where they were both employed by the federal government. In 1949 they moved to Redfield, S.D., where she was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Mrs.
Steven Dean Craft, age 45, of Burnsville, Minn., died unexpectedly Dec. 17, 2010. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Joe Hannah, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Bernice R. Donath, Jan. 19, 1932 - Dec. 23, 2010. Bernice R. Donath, age 78, of St. Paul Park, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2010. Bernice was born Jan. 19, 1932, in St. Paul Park, the daughter of Nick and Nora (Bredeson) Stotzheim. She was raised in St. Paul Park. She was united in marriage to Loren William Donath. Bernice enjoyed horses, snowmobiling, farming, and traveling.
Herbert Volkert, age 93, of Hastings (Nininger Township), passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2010. Preceded in death by his wife, Edna; siblings Hildegard, Bernice, and John. Survived by his siblings Clarence, Adeline (Bud) Carlson, and Ferdinand (June); sisters-in-law Florence Volkert and Rose Hohrman; also by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. John Lutheran Church, Rich Valley (CR 42), Rosemount. Visitation was 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Rich Valley Cemetery.
Laura Louise Most, age 59, of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at her home on Dec. 25, 2010. She graduated from the U of M and received her Master's in special education at UW-Eau Claire. Laura was a professor of special education at UW-Stout and was the Christian Education director at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an avid gardener and holds the current high score in Wii Bowling at the Hastings Senior Center. She was a member of St.
Cindice J. Farber, age 59, of West St. Paul, died Dec. 25, 2010, at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. Cindice was born to Ellsworth and Phyllis (Clary) Johnson on Oct. 30, 1951, in Sparta, Wis. She married Jay Farber on Oct. 5, 1985, in Hastings. Cindice had worked 34 years as a registered nurse at Regions Hospital. She was preceded in death by her father. Cindice is survived by her husband, Jay; children, Chad (Dayna) Johnson of Medina, Kayla Farber and Alex Farber, both of West St.
Irma H. Taube, age 87, of Hastings, died Dec. 22, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home, of cancer. Irma was born in Afton on Oct. 12, 1923, to Peter and Eliza (Vollmer) Riemenschneider. She married Sylvester Taube on July 6, 1951, and was employed at Smeads for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Irma is survived by her children, Judy Lentz of Sarasota, Fla., Susie Riley of Prescott, Sally Voss of Wayzata and Kevin of Hastings; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. John B. Exley, age 88, of Hastings, died Dec. 23, 2010. John was born Sept. 4, 1922, in St. Paul, to Robert and Christine (Sitzman) Exley. He served in the Army during WWII and married Eileen Lodahl on May 15, 1948, in St. Paul. John had worked in the banking industry in the Twin Cities, including 1st National Bank of Hastings. He was an avid golfer, former Rotarian, member of the Am.
Daniel Richard Knak, age 25, of Hastings, died Dec. 18, 2010. Daniel was born Oct. 22, 1985, in Hastings, to Daniel and Lynne (Schaffer) Knak. He was a 2004 graduate of Hastings High School and a graduate of Mobile Dynamics in Tempe, Ariz. Dan enjoyed the outdoors and anything that he could drive fast. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, family, and his dogs Liza and Shylee.
Ethel Mae Helmer, age 97, of Ellsworth, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at the Ellsworth Care Center. Funeral services for Ethel Helmer were 12 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, at the Prescott United Church of Christ, Prescott. Burial will be in the spring in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Ellsworth.
