Lorraine B. Swanson, age 84, of Hastings, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Regina Nursing Home. Lorraine was born on Feb. 17, 1926, in Hastings, to Henry and Ida (Lynn) Samuelson. She married Lloyd B. Swanson on June 6, 1948, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch. Lorraine was a 1944 graduate of Hastings High School and attended teacher's training in Red Wing. She taught in a one-room school on Prairie Island for 2 years prior to her marriage to Lloyd. Lorraine was a member of the Eastern Star-Electra Chapter, and Our Saviour's Ev.
Deanna D. Siebenaler, age 72, of Hastings, died Dec.
Paul H. Augustine, age 79, of Hastings, Minn. A devout family man and ski business pioneer who has gone to rest after passing away on Jan. 1, 2011, in the loving arms of his wife, Rosemary, at Afton Care St. Croix in Afton, Minn. Also survived by sons, John (Monica) of Stillwater and David (Tracie) of Woodbury; daughter, Amy (John) Reents of Hastings; brother Robert of Hastings; sisters, Rose Sieben of Hastings and Sr. Dolores Augustine of Monroe, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and many other relatives, co-workers, and friends.
Alexander K. Beissel, age 22, of Hampton, died unexpectedly Dec. 31, 2010. Alexander was born on Aug. 5, 1988, in Northfield, to Kevin and Debora (Robinson) Beissel. He was a 2006 graduate of Hastings High School. Alexander worked as a motorcycle technician for Harley Davidson in St. Paul and enjoyed making friends.
Philip A. Nolan, a WWII Navy veteran, passed away Dec. 29, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. He was 92 years old. He was born in Hastings on Nov. 28, 1918, to Joseph and Madeline (Koppes) Nolan. He married Lorraine Mitchell in Olivia on May 28, 1945. Philip attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He also attended Cornell University for diesel engineering. He retired from Koch Refinery after more than 30 years of service. He was very involved in the community.
Phyllis G. Savage, age 85, of Hastings, died Dec. 28, 2010, at her home. Phyllis was born Dec. 24, 1925, in West St. Paul, to Daniel and Pauline (Hopkins) Galvin, and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. She married Robert E. Savage on Nov. 22, 1947. Phyllis worked in the business office of Northern Pacific, which later became Burlington Northern, for over 40 years. Phyllis was a former member of the Regina Auxiliary and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Genevieve Wimer, age 97, of Hastings, died Dec. 29, 2010, at Regina Nursing Home. Genevieve was born on a farm near Frankfort, S.D., the daughter of William and Oni Valder, on Nov. 12, 1913. She received her education at Frankfort High School and Aberdeen Business College. Her marriage to Glenn Wimer took place Nov. 16, 1939, in Washington D.C., where they were both employed by the federal government. In 1949 they moved to Redfield, S.D., where she was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. Mrs.
Steven Dean Craft, age 45, of Burnsville, Minn., died unexpectedly Dec. 17, 2010. A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Joe Hannah, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Bernice R. Donath, Jan. 19, 1932 - Dec. 23, 2010. Bernice R. Donath, age 78, of St. Paul Park, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 23, 2010. Bernice was born Jan. 19, 1932, in St. Paul Park, the daughter of Nick and Nora (Bredeson) Stotzheim. She was raised in St. Paul Park. She was united in marriage to Loren William Donath. Bernice enjoyed horses, snowmobiling, farming, and traveling.
Herbert Volkert, age 93, of Hastings (Nininger Township), passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2010. Preceded in death by his wife, Edna; siblings Hildegard, Bernice, and John. Survived by his siblings Clarence, Adeline (Bud) Carlson, and Ferdinand (June); sisters-in-law Florence Volkert and Rose Hohrman; also by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral service 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at St. John Lutheran Church, Rich Valley (CR 42), Rosemount. Visitation was 1 hour prior to the service at church. Interment at Rich Valley Cemetery.
