Deb Oldenburger, an avid sports fan, age 38, of Prescott, Wis., passed away March 4, 2011, at United Hospital in St. Paul. She was born Oct. 18, 1972, in Wishek, N.D., to Roger and Cathleen "Kay" Oldenburger. Deb was a basketball player for the University of California Berkley women's basketball team.
Ronald Franklin Kocher, age 77, of Hastings, Minn., surrounded by family and church, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the Red Wing Health Center after a long illness. Ronald was born to Charles Wesley and Constance Alice (Thompson) Kocher on Aug. 31, 1933, in La Porte City, Iowa. Ronald graduated from high school in 1951 from La Porte City High School. Ronald's work career included banking in Radcliff, Iowa; Fayette, Iowa; Riceville, Iowa; Cresco, Iowa; Maiden Rock, Wis.; Decorah, Iowa; and Hager City, Wis.
Lauren B. Pederson, age 88, of Edina, Minn., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, after a short illness, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. He was born in Hastings, Minn., on March 20, 1922, to Eleanor and George Pederson. He loved his family and being around people. Lauren owned a wholesale candy and tobacco company for 58 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf, again mostly to be around people.
Jean G. Sieben, age 49, of Hastings, died Feb. 25, 2011. Jean was born Nov. 7, 1961, in Hastings, to Edwin and Dorothy (Stull) Sieben. She was a 1980 graduate of Hastings High School and received her bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Minnesota.
Barry E. Heldman, age 66, of Cottage Grove, passed away at his home on Feb. 22, 2011. Funeral service 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ, 7008 Lamar Ave. S., Cottage Grove. Visitation from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to service at church. Interment in the Old Cottage Grove Cemetery. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Union Gospel Mission. The Wise Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richard L. "Dick" Mauch, age 82, of Hastings, died Feb. 14, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. Dick was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Wabasha, Minn., to Howard and Mary (Longhway) Mauch. A graduate of Wabasha High School, he also spent 4 years in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Hildegard M. Eggert, age 92, of Hastings, died Feb. 16, 2011, at Regina Medical Center. Hildegard was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Holdingford, Minn., to Joseph and Louise (Roesch) Zeis. She married Elmer J. Eggert on Dec. 28, 1940, in Minneapolis, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 8 siblings; and son-in-law Bob Friesen.
Fran Cahill, an avid baker, age 74, of Hastings, passed away Feb. 15, 2011, at Prescott Care Center. Fran was born in Hastings on Sept. 1, 1936, to Frank and Marie (Denn) Cahill. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. Fran was preceded in death by his parents and nephew John Cahill. He is survived by his siblings, Marg Mollick, Babe (Don) Holzmer, John (Rita) Cahill, Mike (Archie) Cahill, Pat (Deb) Cahill; many nieces and nephews; uncle, Vess Denn; and aunt, Josephine Denn. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W.
Ralph W. Malloy, a champion cribbage player, age 76, of Hastings, passed away Feb. 14, 2011, at his home. He was born July 5, 1934, in Belle Creek, Minn., to Clarence and Florence Malloy. Ralph retired from Koch Refinery and was the owner of Malloy and Sons Painting. He was the Nickname Maestro, giving everyone he knew their own special nickname. Ralph was a huge dog lover; he truly treated dogs as if they were human.
Norman Duffy, 83, of Lake Charles, La., formally of Hastings, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at his residence, surrounded by his family. Duffy was born in Cumming, Iowa, to Robert and Ruth Duffy. He joined the Merchant Marines, then enlisted in the Air Force and served as a "Tail Gunner" in the Korean War. Duffy was stationed at Chennault Air Force Base where he met and married Wana Landry. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #678 for many years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church and Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
