William M. Brooks, 88, of Corry, Pa., died Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Corry Manor. Mr. Brooks was born on May 2, 1922, in Woodhull, N.Y., a son of the late William R. and Jennie M. Ensign Brooks. He graduated high school from Owego Free Academy, Owego, N.Y., in 1940. He then received his bachelor's degree in pastoral theology in 1943 from Zion Bible College and further studied at Cortland Normal School, Mansfield and Edinboro State Teacher's Colleges. Mr.
Bertie A. E. Charlton, age 76, of Hastings, died March 13, 2011, at the Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, Minn. He was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Kenyon, to Bertie R. and Erma (Zabel) Charlton. Bertie served in the Army during the Korean War and married Eleanor Gergen on Aug. 27, 1965, in Hastings.
Ernest W. Frerich, age 75, of Hastings, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at his residence. He was born July 14, 1935, in Rice, Minn., to John and Dorothy (Gohman) Frerich. Ernest served two tours of duty in the Marines from 1954-1958. He married Lucille Muntifering on June 25, 1958, in North Carolina, and worked as a machinist in manufacturing.
Linda P. "Luper" Huth, 68, of Hastings, moved on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the United Hospital of St. Paul. Linda was born March 9, 1943, to Manuel and Edith (Castro) Cambra in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a people-person and loved her co-workers at Treasure Island and Walmart. Linda also adored her granddaughters and enjoyed going to their sporting events.
James P. "Jack" McCoy, age 85, of Hastings, died Thursday, March 10, 2011. Jack was born to Fred and Emma (Veilleux) McCoy on Nov. 24, 1925, in Woonsocket, S.D. He served in the Navy during WWII and married Betty Rother on June 25, 1949, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. He had worked at 3-M Chemolite for 39 years prior to his retirement in 1986. Jack was often seen collecting cans around Hastings.
Bernice Blanche (Treichler) Olson, age 91, of Welch, died on Saturday morning, March 5, 2011, at the Zumbrota Health Care Center. Bernice was born on Jan. 15, 1920, in St. Cloud, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Clara (Kammerer) Treichler. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1937 and went on to Normal teacher's training in Cannon Falls. After receiving her certificate, she taught in various rural schools including Wastedo, Spring Garden, and Welch, and Miesville and Vermillion parochial schools. She retired in 1986. She married Paul R. Olson on June 9, 1945, at St.
Catherine Marie Schneider, age 63, formerly of St. Paul, Minn., died peacefully on March 4, 2011, at Fairview Ridges Hospital. She was born on June 16, 1947, in St. Paul. Cathy is survived by her children, Brian (Patti) Schneider of Eau Claire, Wis., Jeff Schneider of Burnsville, Minn., Julie (Todd) Murtaugh of Hastings, and Ben Schneider of Hastings. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Olivia and Ellie Schneider and Macey and Mitchell Murtaugh, who were the light of her life.
Aloysius N. "Al" Fox, age 86, of Hastings, died March 5, 2011, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Al was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Hastings, to Louis and Susan (Eilen) Fox. He was a graduate of Cannon Falls High School and served his country during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Al married Betty Caneff on Nov. 8, 1952, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings. Prior to retirement he was employed at St.
William M. Bryan Sr., age 73, of Hastings, died March 4, 2011. William was born July 17, 1937, in Imperial, Pa., to Michael and Grace (Junker) Bryan. He served in the United States Air Force and married Lois Thun on Dec. 16, 1960, in Pittsburgh. Prior to retirement he was employed in the airline industry.
Betsy G. Slapnicher, age 63, of Hastings, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on March 4, 2011. She was born in Hartford, Conn., on July 12, 1947, to Robert and Catherine Doud. She married Joe Slapnicher on June 12, 1971 in Collinsville, Conn. Betsy was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Doud; mother, Catherine Doud; father, Robert Doud; and her aunt, Elizabeth "Bet" Graham.
