James F. Dummer, age 53, of Hastings, passed away July 19, 2011, at his home. He was born May 20, 1958, in Hastings, to George and Margaret Dummer. James loved the outdoors and was an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jerry Dixon, George Dummer Jr. James is survived by his son, Jason Dummer; brother Tom (Karen) Dixon; nieces, Heather, Holly, Michelle. Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service. Interment, St.
Adam Michael Stein, age 23, of Hampton, died accidentally July 17, 2011. Adam was born Oct. 9, 1987, in Red Wing, to Randy and Janet (Finstuen) Stein. He was a 2006 graduate of Cannon Falls High School and attended St. Paul Technical College. He was employed by Kellington Construction of Minneapolis, Minn. Adam enjoyed building derby trucks, polishing his vehicles, spending time with his family and his tight group of friends, and taking care of his dog Molly.
Raphael Maiola died on Thursday, July 14, 2011, at the age of 89. Ruffy was born on Oct. 22, 1921, in Biwabik, Minn., to Salvatore and Macolata Miola, immigrants to the U.S. from Italy. He graduated from Biwabik High School in 1939. Ruffy served in the South Pacific during World War II as a Navy radioman. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1949 and a master's degree from UW-Superior in 1970, and he taught school for 34 years before retiring in 1984. In 1949, Ruffy was united in marriage to Amy Christine Nelson of Roseau, Minn.
Mary Judith (Sieben) McGill, age 70, of Santa Monica, Calif., died July 13, 2011, in Burlingame, Calif. Mary Judith was born March 24, 1941, in Minneapolis, to Harry and Mary (Luger) Sieben. She was a 1959 graduate of Hastings High School and of Creighton University in 1963.
Harold Casper Gesme, age 90, of Cannon Falls, died peacefully at his residence at Twin Rivers on Monday evening, July 11, 2011. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at Lundberg Funeral Home in Cannon Falls. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, with visitation from 10-11 a.m., at St. Ansgar's Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls with Pastor Carol Sinykin and Pastor Gary Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at the Cannon Falls Cemetery.

Beuford H. "Bushy" Wirt of Hastings, Minn., died July 5, 2011, at Augustana Care Center in Hastings. He was 99 years old. Bushy was born Sept. 30, 1911, in Lewiston, Minn., the son of Henry and Alice (Ogrosky) Wirt. His father started the Lewiston Telephone Co. in 1903, and Bushy grew up with the telephone company. When he was 9 years old, his father had a blacksmith make a pair of climbers for him so he could learn to climb telephone poles. After graduating from high school, he became a full-time employee and later manager of the Pioneer Telephone Co. in the Wabasha and Winona County area.
Betty L. Kulzer, age 70, of Hastings died July 3, 2011, in Rochester. Betty was born on Sept. 11, 1940, in Hastings, to John and Gertrude (Wollmering) Stoffel. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1958. Betty was united in marriage to Robert M. Kulzer on Aug. 25, 1962, in Hastings. She was an avid gardener and cook and loved to travel. Betty retired from the Dakota County District Court after many years as chief deputy clerk.
