John "Jack" Samuelson, age 74, of Hastings, died Oct. 31. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St., Hastings, with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Memorials are preferred.
Carol Ann Foley was born Oct. 10, 1942, and after years of battling health issues, she passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 29. She is now forever in the warm and loving embrace of Jesus with her parents, Neal and Anna Harlan. Carol is survived by her brother, Jack of Boise, Idaho; sons, Daniel (Kathleen) and Dennis (Mari); grandchildren, Justen, Emma, Jordyn, Anthony, and Brandon. She also leaves behind many other family and friends who will miss her dearly. She had a positive impact on every life she touched. The memorial service for Carol, officiated by Rev.
Annette Frandrup-Frie, age 53, of Faribault, died Oct. 29 at the Cannon Falls Community Hospital. The visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the funeral Mass held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mathias Catholic Church, 23325 Northfield Blvd., Hampton, Minn. Interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery, Vermillion.
Patricia Hastings Trevena of Nashville, Tenn., formerly of Hastings, Minn., passed away Oct. 22 surrounded by loved ones. Patti was born June 19, 1957, in Butte, Mont. She graduated from Butte Central High School in 1975 and went on to graduate from Butte Vocational Technical College in 1977. She married Dan Trevena in 1978, and they were blessed with two sons.
Matthew W. Christenson, a local business owner, age 45, of Hastings, passed away at home in Prescott on Oct. 19. Matt was born in Hastings to John and Jacquelyn Christenson on Dec. 21, 1965. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to camp.
Marilyn Henry Weckman Peterson, 79, longtime resident of Hastings, died peacefully Sunday, July 3, 2011, at The Arbors Care Center in Roseville, Minn. Marilyn was born Oct. 27, 1931, to Charles McLean Henry and Evelyn Smith Henry in Marietta, Ohio. She met her first husband, Charles J. Weckman, while attending Marietta College as a theater student. They were married Oct. 10, 1953, in Christ Church, Williamstown, W.V. They went on to have three children, Bill, Anne, and Grace, before moving to Hastings in 1961.
Ione M. Kjos, age 80, of Hastings, died Oct. 13 at her home. The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin, will be held Oct. 18 at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hastings, followed by interment in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Arrangements were handled by the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, Hastings, 651-437-9419, www.caturia-smidtfh.com .
Doris B. Warner, age 84, of Hastings, died Oct. 13 at her home. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hastings. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the Mass at the church. Interment will follow the Mass in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice in Doris's name.
Paul S. Snelling, age 64, of Hastings, passed away at home Oct. 12. He was born to W. Kenneth and Betty Snelling in Elwood, Ind., on Aug. 31, 1947. He married Priscilla Schrock on June 13, 1971, in Hancock, Mich.
Otto Trede, age 96, of Hastings, passed away at Regina Assisted Living on Oct. 9, 2011. Otto was born April 2, 1915, to Hans and Minna Trede in Hamburg, Germany. He married Kaete Batel in Hamburg on Oct. 7, 1939. With his wife and daughter, Janet, he moved to the United States in 1953. After arriving, they lived in Marengo, Forest Park, and Lombard, Ill. Upon retirement from his profession as a tool and die maker in 1977, Otto and Kaete moved to Leaf Lake near Henning, Minn.
