ST. PAUL --Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has announced he plans to skip early June’s Republican state convention and go straight to the Aug.14 primary, drawing sharp criticism from another GOP candidate in the race and the Democratic party. Pawlenty’s decision means he won’t be seeking the party’s endorsement. In a statement Tuesday, his campaign said the two-term governor entered the race too late for to have a “fair fight” for the endorsement.

EDEN VALLEY, Minn.—Anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 mink are on the loose in Stearns County in central Minnesota after burglars entered a mink farm, cut a fence and opened cages to let them free. The incident happened sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, and 5:30 a.m. Monday, July 17, on Lang Farms LLC about 2.5 miles northwest of Eden Valley. That's about 30 miles southwest of St. Cloud.
NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- This little piggy won’t go to market. A 250-pound pig who jumped off a truck at 70 mph on the way to a Sioux Falls, S.D., slaughterhouse and survived in now living at a farm sanctuary northeast of the Twin Cities, where the caretaker says “Wally” is an “amazing pig.”
ST. PAUL—Bald eagles are migrating back to Minnesota a few weeks early because of the warm February. People could see the birds in large numbers over the next few weeks as the warmer days melted much of the snow cover with ice breaking up along rivers and lakes, said Lisa Gelvin-Innvaer, a nongame wildlife specialist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources in the New Ulm office.
