Nordic Ski: Raiders open season with conference sprint relays

Both the Hastings High School boys and girls Nordic Ski teams opened their regular season's Dec. 18 with an meet at Troll Hollow.

The Raiders competed against six other Suburban East Conference teams at the SEC Sprint Relays.

The boys team finished fifth overall with 254 points. The girls finished seventh with 238 points.

The boys team had eight skiers compete at the meet. Each skier was paired with another for a placing.

Hastings' Alex Blackie and Gunner Dancer finished sixth overall with a time of 19:15. Tim O'Brien and Wyatt Behrends finished 18th overall for Hastings with a combined time of 21:27.

Tyler Samuelson and Rick Sindt finished 25th overall with a time of 24:50 and Sean Eglinton and Jake Niemann finished 26th overall with a time of 27:00.

On the girls' side, Sam Lucking and Andi Eglinton were the top finishers for the Raiders, coming in 20th with a time of 25:43.

Sarah Peterson and Nicole Gaertner finished 21st with a time of 26:36. Alicia Beattie and Laura Pochardt finished 24th overall with a time of 28:28.

Both teams are off until the new year, when they compete at the Mesabi Invitational Jan. 4 and 5 at Giant's Ridge.
