The Hastings Raiders boys' lacrosse team has hit the ground running for the start of this season and are taking no mercy. The Raiders obliterated their rival, Park, in the season opener at Park last Friday night for a 11-2 victory. They followed up that victory with another win over Metro East Conference opponent, the Simley Spartans, on the road, 18-7, on Monday, April 23.

Against Park on Friday it was a slow first quarter as only one goal was scored, courtesy of senior Eli Schaffer. The Raiders led 1-0 heading into the second quarter and then they got rolling. Hastings' offense operated smoothly and patiently, and they were able to get the ball to the middle of the Wolfpack defense in front of the goal at will. They scored five goals in the second quarter, two from sophomore Alex Foster and one each from fellow sophomore Cody Veith, senior captain T.J. Pottinger and senior Jack Arvidson.

The second half saw Park finally get on the board with the first goal of the third quarter, but the Raiders put up two more goals, both from senior Erik Iverson. While Park scored another goal, Hastings extended their lead to 11-2 with goals again from Schaffer, Arvidson and Foster.

The game against Simley was back and forth as the Spartans took a 2-0 lead to start the game. Hastings made a comeback and took a 4-3 lead with goals from Pottinger, senior Noah Bzoskie, Iverson and Veith. Up 4-3, the game went back and forth until it was 6-5 Hastings, then the Raiders blew it wide open. Ten different Raider players scored and three of them had multiple goals. Iverson led the team with four goals while Arvidson and Bzoskie each had three. Junior Corbin Leflay, Veith, Schaffer, junior Kyle Nogle, senior John Cole, Foster and Pottinger each had a goal apiece.

Hastings traveled to Tartan on Wednesday, April 24. They then host Orono on Saturday, April 28. Next week, they host Hill-Murray on Monday, April 30, and North St. Paul on Wednesday, May 2.
