Raider boys' tennis falls to East Ridge in section finals
The Hastings boys' tennis team ended their fantastic season with a loss to East Ridge in the section 3AA championship for the chance to go to state.
The Raiders fell to the Raptors 6-1 in an identical score to when these two teams faced each other in Hastings' first match of the season.
The Raiders dropped all four of their singles matches. Senior Alec Rudh lost in first singles 0-6, 0-6, while fellow senior Brad Risch dropped second singles 0-6, 2-6. Freshman Colby Zak lost in third singles 0-6, 2-6, while junior Grant Hollar fell in fourth singles 6-1, 3-6 (6-10).
Senior Luke Johnson and sophomore Carson Konrady lost in first doubles 0-6, 2-6. Hastings lone win came from juniors Joe Zak and Brandon Kurilla, who won second doubles 6-3, 1-6 (10-7). In third doubles, sophomore Eric Howd and senior Reese Estabrook lost 2-6, 6-2 (2-10).
Head coach Michael Willette, while disappointed with the loss, said he was proud of what his team had accomplished.
"This is a team that showed commitment and focus," Willette said. "Our main goal was to get to the section final. We needed to play our best and peak and the right time to do that and it feels good to accomplish a goal through hard work and focus. This team should be proud of what they accomplished."
