HHS girls golf coming to end of regular season
Despite the horrible weather the last two weeks, the Hastings girls' golf team has found a way to stay busy.
The Raiders hosted Tartan on May 11 at Hidden Greens Golf Course. The Titans edged Hastings 200-207, but sophomore Hannah Hubbart was a medalist and shot a 46. Head coach Becky Hartung said that Hubbart was able to shoot a quality score by hitting a lot of fairways and putting well. Sophomore Sam Benson shot a 52, senior Nicole Neuman came in with a 53 and seventh-grader Lauren Hubbart shot a 56.
Hastings then golfed in the Dakota County Girls Golf Championship and took ninth out of 12 teams.
"Some of the top teams in the state were in the tournament," Hartung said. "It's good for the girls to play with some of the top girls in the state. They realize there's always room for improvement in every part of their game."
On May 15, the Raiders played at the Cannon Falls Invite. Hartung said she likes to play in that tournament every year as the Cannon Golf Club is where sections are held. Hannah Hubbart led Hastings in the 18-hole round with a 97, while junior Shannon O'Connor shot a 101. Both Benson and Neuman came in with a 108 and as a team they took third out of five teams.
The next day, May 16, they hosted Mahtomedi and beat the Zephyrs 198-226. Neuman and O'Connor were co-medalists (both shot 49), while Hannah Hubbart, Benson and seventh-grader Megan Brown all shot 50.
Heading into the last week of the regular season and then sections, Hartung said her team needs to be steady.
"At this time of the season we need to stay focused and consistent with our golf games," she said.
Sections are June 1 and 5 at Cannon Golf Club, while the state tournament is June 13-14 at Bunker Hills Golf Course.
