Raider track athletes fare well at state meet prelims

Hastings was well represented at the state track and field meet at Hamline University in St. Paul on Friday. 

Hastings had athletes in four events.

In the 400 meter dash, sophomore Nik Chappee had an excellent day. He emerged from the preliminary round with a time of 50.22 seconds. He'll run in the finals on Saturday.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Hastings junior Clayton Johnson had a great day again. The defending state champion in the event, Johnson had the fastest time in prelims at 38.17 seconds.

The Hastings boys 4x400 relay team also excelled and advanced to the state finals. The team of Chappee, Logan Welshons, Bobby Verchota and Johnson had a time of 3:24.33 to qualify for finals.

The Hastings girls 4x200 relay team did not advance to finals. The team of Sierra Dokken, Brianna Froehling, Jen Koudelka and Cici Carlson had a time of 1:47.51.
