Delano edges out Raider runners

Cross country meets don’t get much closer than the one the Hastings Raiders had last week in Waconia.

Hastings and Delano figured to be the top two teams coming into the race, and the Raiders had a real shot to win the 13-team meet.

In the end, though, Delano managed to eke out a narrow win over Hastings to go home with the meet title. Delano finished with 63 points. Hastings had 66 and Belle Plaine was third with 75.

The Raiders were led by Kyle Gudmunson, who finished fifth overall with a time of 17 minutes and 20.2 seconds on the 5k course.

Bobby Verchota was seventh in 17:29.3 and Will Caturia finished ninth in 17:44.3. Mike Tappella was 21st in 18:21.0 and the varsity scoring concluded with Jonathon Vouk, who was 24th in 18:33.5.

Nick Johnson took 25th in 18:35.6 and Finley Myers was 46th in 19:20.7.

Girls varsity

The Hastings girls placed fourth in their meet with 104 points. Waconia won the meet with 30 points. Belle Plaine was second (73) and Delano was third (74).

Hastings was led by Quinn Myers, who finished 11th in 17 minutes and 15.3 seconds on the 4k course.

Abberly Smith was 21st in 17:56.4. Reilly Johnson finished 24th in 18:05.1 and Alexis Edmundson was 25th in 28:07.1.

Ciara Christensen finished 42nd in 18:44.8. Hannah Peterson finished 45th in 18:57.6 and Megan Mattson was 46th in 18:59.7.

Boys junior varsity
