Hastings softball team wins season’s first three games
The Hastings High School softball season is off to a great start. The Raiders are unbeaten in their first three games of the year.
The season began with a 5-0 win over White Bear Lake on Wednesday, April 9. The Raiders didn’t commit a single error in the game.
“Our defense was very solid,” assistant coach Ken Lundquist said. “We played flawless softball. There were no mental mistakes and no physical errors. That had a lot to do with us winning 5-0.”
Meagan Friederichs was the starting pitcher and she earned the win. Friederichs pitched six innings and allowed two hits.
Hastings scored three runs in the third inning. Friederichs delivered the big hit, a two-out double that scored two runners – Alyssa Robinson and Michaela Mills. Shelby Wassink then had a single that scored Friederichs.
In the seventh inning, Mills scored two runners (Alex Mohrhauser and Brooke Weber) with a big hit.
Fifteen players got into the lineup for the Raiders.
“We have a lot of depth this year,” Lundquist said. “We have a lot of girls who can step in and play.”

Mikayla Minnaert threw five innings and allowed just one earned run. Paige Ahrens pitched one inning and Friederichs threw the seventh.
