Hastings places third at SEC alpine ski meet

The Hastings girls Alpine ski team had a very strong finish at a Suburban East Conference meet last week at Afton Alps.

The Raiders had 616 points to come in behind Stillwater (719) and East Ridge (644).

Hastings was led by Rosie Pechous, who finished sixth overall in 1 minute and 6.21 seconds. Her first run time was 33.16 and her second run time was 33.05.

Ellie Peine was ninth in 1:07.23.

Gabriella Sorg was close behind in 11th with a time of 1:07.74.

Josie Pechous finished 20th in 1:11.39.

Sara Juelfs placed 26th in 1:12.68.

Shannon O’Connor took 33rd in 1:16.40.

Kirstie Clothier placed 42nd for Hastings. She had a time of 1:19.57.

Kayla Boogren was 45th in 1:12.62.

Katie Roach finished 50th in 1:26.91.


The Hastings boys placed fourth at the meet with 495 points. The meet was won by Stillwater, which had 730. East Ridge was second and Forest Lake was third.

Sam McKinney led Hastings with a 25th-place finish. He had a combined time of 1:10.49.

Jake Gartzke was 26th in 1:10.58.

Thomas Goonan took 28th in 1:11.29.

Hayden Niebur finished 35th in 1:12.98.

Jack Caturia finished 44th in 1:17.63.

John Schmitz was 46th in 1:17.96.

Josh Juelfs finished 52nd in 1:19.42.

Stephen O’Connor was 57th. He had a time of 30.76 on the first run, which was the third-fastest. He had a fall on the second run, though, and slipped down the standings.

Jacob Peine and Logan Welshons also scored points for the Raiders.

Junior varsity

Hastings had a few competitors in the junior varsity race, too.

On the girls side, C.J. Kremer led the way with a ninth-place finish.

Also racing was Logan Doty (17th).

The junior varsity boys had just one junior varsity competitor. He was Nick Holm, who was 23rd.
