The Hastings girls' tennis team finished a successful season. The Raiders earned the seventh seed in section 1AA and beat No. 10-seed Winona in the first round of sections 7-0. They then fell to a very good Owatonna team, which was the second seed, 5-2.
Their season then moved on to individual sections, where they entered two doubles teams and two singles players.
The doubles team of seniors Ava Hernlem and Rachel Weber lost an incredibly close match to a team from Northfield 6-3, 5-7, 6-7 (4).
Senior Isabella Kranz and freshman Anri Sakakibara teamed up and made a run through the bottom part of the doubles bracket. They beat a team from Winona 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and cruised in their second round match against a team from Waseca 6-0, 6-2. In the semifinals last Thursday, Oct. 12, they fell to another Northfield team 1-6, 2-6.
Sophomore Amy Roach won her first-round singles match 6-0, 6-1 over a girl from Winona, but then fell in the second round to a player from Owatonna 1-6, 1-6.
Elizabeth Henrichs won her first-round match against a player from Faribault 6-3, 6-0 but then lost in the second round to a girl from Lakeville North 2-6, 0-6.
Overall, Hastings finished the regular season 12-7 as a team and were 1-1 in the playoffs. They graduate six seniors this spring: Kayla Boogren, Kelsey Frandrup, Ava Hernlem, Isabella Kranz, Nicole Tukua and Rachel Weber.
