The Hastings Post 47 senior American Legion baseball team dropped a doubleheader against Mahtomedi at Veterans Park on Sunday, July 9. The Raiders lost the first game 4-0 and then the second game 6-2 in eight innings.

Hastings was shutout and managed just five hits in the first game against the Zephyrs. Drew Davis led the Raiders with two hits, while Jake Erridge, Braden Svoboda and Jake Biermaier each had one.

The second game was tightly contested until the very last inning. Neither side scored until the sixth inning, when Mahtomedi scored one run in the top of the sixth and then added another to take a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Raiders answered to tie the game and go into extra innings thanks to an RBI single by Cory Wolters and an RBI double by Davis. However, the wheels came off a bit in the top of the eighth and the Zephyrs scored four runs to win 6-2.

Biermaier threw 7 1/3 innings, gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks (two hit batsmen) and one strikeout. Davis came in relief for 2/3 of an inning and gave up just one hit that scored inherited baserunners.

Davis and Brett Peine each had two hits, while Davis and Wolters had the RBIs. Cody Lewison walked twice, while Biermaier and Ben Povelka each walked once.

Hastings traveled to Prior Lake on Monday night, July 10, travel to Eastview on Thursday, July 13, and host Lakeville on July 14.
