Minnesota Wild may want a Hastings native
NHL rumors are rising as the New York Rangers may be seeking to trade Hastings native Derek Stepan. And according to writers on sportsblog.com, the Minnesota Wild are among the many teams that Stepan could be traded to.
The 25-year-old player’s six-year career has had him playing more than 400 games and, according to the NHL, Stepan has scored more than 100 goals, 23 of which were game winning. With four 50-plus point seasons under his belt, Stepan, who is 6-feet, 196-pounds, may be considered for center position on the Minnesota Wild.
According to sportsblog.com, possible issues may arise if the rumors are true, considering Stepan’s current contract with the New York Rangers is through the 2020-2021 season and his salary of $8 million would be capped off at a lower rate through the Wild.
The rumors extend to the New York Rangers making plenty of changes this upcoming season, including the trade of Stepan’s teammates, Ryan McDonaugh, Rick Nash and Dan Girardi.
The NHL has not confirmed any of these rumors.
