Eight Raiders qualify for state wrestling tournament

Hastings High School will be represented in eight weight classes at this weekend’s state meet in St. Paul.

The eight wrestlers will attempt to advance in the tournament, which begins for individuals at 9 a.m. Friday at the Xcel Energy Center.

The quarterfinal round begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The individual tournament continues through Saturday.

Here are the Hastings qualifers:

Adam McSorley

Adam McSorley, a Hastings sophomore, qualified at 120 pounds.

He comes into the state meet with a 34-7 record.

His first-round matchup is against Jake Bergeland of Centennial, who has a 36-5 record.

Spencer Kopp

Spencer Kopp qualified at 126 pounds. He is a junior.

Kopp has a record of 34-9 on the season.

His first-round matchup is against Lee Schmalz of Mound Westonka. Schmalz has a 30-10 record.

Kyle Erickson

Sophomore Kyle Erickson qualified for Hastings at 132 pounds. He has a record of 21-15 coming into the state meet.

Erickson faces Jarod Julkowski of Coon Rapids in the first round of the state meet. Julkowski is 29-10 on the season.

Jon Vouk

Jon Vouk, a Hastings senior, qualified at 170 pounds. He has a record of 26-6 on the season.

His first-round opponent is Hunter Judge of Bloomington Kennedy. Judge has a 27-11 record on the year.

Mark Vaith

Mark Vaith made the state tournament as a junior at 182 pounds. Vaith has a 25-9 record coming into the state meet.

His first-round opponent is Simeon Tschumper of Eden Prairie, who is 32-7 on the year.

Edison Duong

Edison Duong qualified for the state meet at 195 pounds with a 13-16 record. He’ll open the tournament against Evan Foster of St. Michael-Albertville, who has a 24-6 record on the year. Duong is a Hastings senior.

Cullin Brendeland

Cullin Brendeland, a Hastings senior, qualified at 220 pounds. He has a 32-10 record. His opponent in the opening round is Rylee Streifel of Prior Lake, who is 37-2 on the year.

Jacob Bacon

Hastings junior Jacob Bacon qualified for the state meet as a heavyweight. He is 29-4 on the year and faces Maple Grove’s Barry Ndip in the first round.

Ndip has a 24-7 record on the year.
