Hastings wrestlers thump three opponents 221-18
After a grueling stretch of non-conference opponents, the Hastings wrestling team stayed close to home last week and went 3-0. None of the matches were close, with Hastings winning the duals by scores of 77-6, 69-9 and 75-3.
Hastings competed in a triangular at Mahtomedi on Thursday, Jan. 15, and won that one 69-9. Hastings had a total of 10 pins in the match.
Croix Mader got the meet off to a good start with a close 10-9 win.
Adam McSorley won by fall in just 2:23.
Spencer Kopp won by fall in 1:15.
T.J. Pottinger won by fall in 3:32.
Austin Eichmann won by fall in 1:45.
Cody Leflay won by forfeit.
Logan Gove won by fall at 4:02.
Jonathan Vouk won by fall at 1:00.
Keith Mikel won by fall at 1:03.
Mark Vaith won by fall at 3:10.
Cullin Brendeland won by fall at 4:45.
Jacob Bacon won by fall at 44 seconds.
Hastings competed against St. Thomas Academy in the second match and won that one, 77-6.
Again, pins were the big story. Hastings had five more wins by fall and then seven wins by forfeit to drive the score up.
Mader, Kopp, Pottinger, Kyle Erickson, Logan Olson, Gove and Bacon all won by forfeit.
Recording pins were McSorley, Austin Eichmann, Vaith, Mike and Brendeland.
Vouk earned a tech fall.
Vs East Ridge
Hastings had a non-conference meet against East Ridge on Friday, Jan. 16. The Raiders cruised to a 75-3 win in that match.
Jesse Mimbach, McSorley, Kopp, Gove, Vaith, Brendeland and Bacon all won by forfeit.
Derek Edwards earned a tech fall for Hastings at 113 pounds, 24-8.
Erickson won by fall at 1:36 at 138 pounds.
Finley Myers recorded a pin at 145 pounds in 5:03.
Eichmann won by fall at 1:57 at 152 pounds.
Vouk scored a major decision win at 170 pounds.
Mikel had a pin at 25 seconds at 182 pounds.
Hastings travels to Bloomington Kennedy on Saturday for an invitational. Teams from Kennedy, Hastings, Champlin Park, Irondale, Minnetonka, St. Paul Highland Park, Woodbury and Zumbrota-Mazeppa will all be there.
Hastings has a triangular on Jan. 29 at South St. Paul and then a tournament in Anoka on Jan. 31 before returning home for a much-anticipated 7:30 p.m. matchup against Simley on Friday, Feb. 6.
