Boys place third at first MEC nordic skiing meet of the year
The Metro East Conference Nordic ski season got running on Tuesday, Dec. 9, with a meet at Rogers Lake. So far, there’s a whole lot to like from the Raider boys and girls. They each placed third at the meet.
The boys finished with 436 points. Mahtomedi won the race with 454 and St. Thomas was second with 442.
Hastings was led by Will Caturia, who placed second overall with a time of 15:05.
Bobby Verchota was sixth in 17:01 and Garrett Tuin was 12th in 17:42.
Trevor Caflisch placed 18th in 18:28, Nick Johnson was 31st in 19:00, Jacob Rabaey was 34th in 19:24 and Graham Johnson took 40th in 20:06.
Also racing for Hastings were Sawyer Karas, Clayton Johnson, Tate Gahnz and Seth Greengo.
Harry Patton raced for the junior varsity boys. He was 35th.
The girls finished with 422 points.
Mahtomedi won the race with 465 points and Henry Sibley was second with 464.
Rachel Peterson led the Hastings girls with a second-place finish in 16 minutes and 56 seconds.
Cece Boyle of Tartan won the meet in 16:55.
Placing eighth for Hastings was Hannah Peterson, who had a time of 19:03.
Abberly Smith was 13th in 20:03; Alissa Smith was 30th in 21:05; Alexis Edmundson was 32nd in 21:18; Anna Lindner was 44th in 22:18. Julie Human, Savannah Henderson, Quinn Myers and Kiera Welshons also raced for Hastings.
On the junior varsity team, the Raiders were led by Calli Bernard, who was sixth with a time of 11:24 on a shorter course.
Ruby Karras was 32nd and Taylor Sneen was 38th.
