Hastings grad playing in D3 Frozen Four

Hastings High School graduate Mackenzie Holm is going out in style.

The University of St. Thomas senior is competing with the Tommies women’s hockey team at the NCAA Division III Frozen Four in Plattsburgh, N.Y., this weekend.

St. Thomas plays against the tournament’s top seeded team from Plattsburgh State at 3:30 p.m. on March 21.

On the other side of the bracket, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls faces Norwich.

The Tommies advanced by beating No. 5-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Friday, 5-0. That win was the first NCAA playoff win for the program.

UST is 15-2-2 since the Christmas break.

Holm, who plays as a defensive defenseman, has scored three goals and six assists for the Tommies.

She will graduate this spring with a degree in health promotions and hopes to attend graduate school in the fall.

The game on Friday will be her 99th career game for St. Thomas, and on Saturday, she’ll play in her 100th game as the Tommies go for either the national title or for third place.

She is the daughter of Craig and Marilyn Holm and is a 2010 graduate of Hastings High School.
