Raiders girls hockey slips to 2-5 with 1-0 loss to C-DH
The Hastings girls hockey team has hit a bit of a rough patch in the recent 10 days. The Raiders have lost three straight games and are now 2-5 on the season.
Among those losses was a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday night to Cretin-Derham Hall.
Cretin scored the game’s only goal at 9:46 of the second period on the power play.
Hastings was outshot in the game, 21-17.
Goalie Brooke Weber made 20 saves for the Raiders.
Vs Forest Lake
Hastings lost to Forest Lake on Nov. 25, 4-3.
The Raiders fell behind 3-1 before coming back to tie the game. The Rangers, though, won the game with a late goal.
“Although we felt that the girls were ready to go, we ended up starting the first half of the game with very little energy,” HHS coach Jeff Corkish said. “If you were watching the girl on the puck, it may have looked like we were working pretty hard but the other four players were doing a lot of puck watching and giving very little support in all three zones of the ice. Because of our effort we ended up behind 3-1 and had to call a time out late in the second period before it got any worse.
“After the time out the girls took control of the game outshot the Rangers.”
Hastings came on strong and tied the game, but it wasn’t enough to get past Forest Lake.
“Nicole Klimek did a great job and helped us stay in the game with her first goal of the season,” Corkish said. “Kiki Radke fired a hard slap shot from the point to get the score to 3-2 and Kit Ruedy made a nice play to tie the game at three. “Lessons to be learned and we will see how we can use those lessons in the near future.”
