Hastings turns things around, beats Logan 4-0

The goal scoring drought came to a nice end for the Hastings Raiders on Friday night.

Hastings beat La Crosse Logan in a non-conference game, 4-0.

“It was nice to play a competitor that actually gave us time to develop our play,” coach Shane Lanning said. “That’s what the difference has been with our non-conference games. It’s just the speed of play. Against the teams in our conference, it has been so quick.”

Hastings got on the scoreboard after a goal by Thomas Goonan, assisted by Noah Brenny.

Logan Welshons then scored two goals to put Hastings up 3-0. He was assisted by Kane McGree and Brenny.

The fourth goal was scored by Austin Houska. He was assisted by Donovan Odhiambo.

All three goal scorers are underclassmen.

“We’re getting some guys on the scoring sheet who will be returning next year,” Lanning said. “That’s always an encouraging sign.”

Dan Steiner and Andrew Amy played in goal for the Raiders and combined for the shutout.

SEC action

Hastings lost to Forest Lake on Tuesday night, 4-0.

“They physically overpowered us, and I think we came out a little flat,” Lanning said. “I don’t think we played as well as we could have. I think a lot of guys left some play out on the field.”

Hastings lost to Woodbury on Sept. 19, 8-0, and to East Ridge on Sept. 17, 9-0.

The boys soccer team has a benefit pancake breakfast planned for 7:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Green Mill. The fee is $6 and tickets are available at the door.
