Raiders edge White Bear Lake, 4-3

The Hastings boys tennis team earned a big win last week over White Bear Lake, 4-3.

Two of the matches went to three sets, and Hastings won both of them, turning what could have been a 5-2 loss into a 4-3 win.

One of the three-set matches came at No. 4 singles, where HHS sophomore Robby Troje won 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

The second came at No. 2 doubles, where junior Alex Zuzek and sophomore Craig Nielsen won 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.

Also winning for Hastings was Cody Arndtson (who won at first singles, 6-4, 6-4) and the No. 1 doubles team of Austin Houska and Danny Steiner (7-6, 6-3).

Steve Roach and Ben Klimek also played singles for Hastings. The third doubles team was made up of Carson Whyle and Skylar Rawling.

Hastings now has a record of 7-10 on the season, including a 4-5 mark in Suburban East Conference play.

Vs Red Wing

Hastings lost to Red Wing on May 8, 4-2, in a match that was shortened due to rain.

Winning for Hastings was Steiner, who played at fourth singles, 7-5, 6-0; and the No. 3 doubles team of Roach and Ben Kimmes (6-3, 6-3).

Vs East Ridge

Hastings lost to East Ridge last week, 5-2.

Earning wins for Hastings were Arndtson and the No. 3 doubles team of Whyle and Klimek.

Arndtson, playing at first singles, won 6-3, 6-4.

Whyle and Klimek won 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Vs Cretin

Hastings lost to Cretin-Derham Hall on May 11, 6-1.

The lone Hastings win came at second doubles, when Roach and Zuzek teamed up to win 7-6, 6-2.

Arndtson's match at first singles went to three sets. He lost 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.

The first and third doubles matches also went to three sets. Houska and Nielsen lost 6-7, 6-0, 6-3.

The third teams of Klimek and Whyle lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Vs Mounds View

Hastings lost to a very good team from Mounds View on Monday, 7-0.

Arndtson lost a close one, 4-6, 7-6.

Simon Schult, playing at second singles, lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Houska and Nielsen lost a close one at first doubles, 5-7, 4-6.

Klimek and Whyle had a close one, too, falling 6-2, 7-5, 3-10.
