O'Connor leads Hastings boys at SEC ski meet

The Hastings boys Alpine ski team placed fifth with 552 points at the Suburban East Conference race on Jan. 29 at Wild Mountain.

Stephen O'Connor led Hastings with a third-place finish. He finished his first run in 25.69 seconds and his second in 24.45. He had a combined time of 50.14.

Adam Peine took ninth overall in 51.03.

Nate Strauss finished 40th in 57.63.

Joe Wright was 43rd in 58.20.

Sam McKinney was 45th in 59.05.

Jake Gartzke took 48th in 59.59.

John Schmitz finished 55th in 1:00.85.

Will Caturia, Thomas Goonan and Chris Erickson also raced varsity for Hastings.

The meet was won by Stillwater with 790 points. Mounds View was second (678 points) and East Ridge was third (648).


The Hastings girls placed fifth with 608 points.

Gabriella Sorg placed fifth overall with a combined time of 1:08.54. She had a time of 32.61 on her first run and 35.93 on her second.

Rosie Pechous was seventh overall in 1:09.45.

Ellie Peine took 29th in 1:16.22.

Sarah Kieffer placed 33rd in 1:17.91.

Sarah Juelfs was 39th in 1:19.94.

Shannon O'Connor took 47th in 1:25.43.

Katie Roach finished 51st in 1:27.81.

Kristie Clothier placed 55th in 1:30.37.

Danika Truax placed 58th in 1:32.54.

Ursula Rumann also raced for Hastings.
