Girls take 5th at Welch ski invite

It was a great day on Friday for the Hastings Alpine ski teams. The Hastings girls placed fifth out of 15 teams at the 38th annual Welch Village Invitational.

On the boys side, Hastings placed eighth out of 17 teams.


The Hastings girls placed fifth with 248 points.

Stillwater won the race with 280 points.

Gabriella Sorg led the Raiders with an eighth-place finish. She had a time of 38.75 seconds on the first run, and a time of 38.62 on the second. Her combined time was 1:17.37.

Rosie Pechous was 13th in 1:20.55.

Sara Juelfs took 34th in 1:30.67.

Ellie Peine was 38th in 1:32.64.

Squad 2 for the girls placed fourth with 250 points.

East Ridge won the Squad 2 meet with 295 points. Stillwater was second, and Eagan/Eastview was third with 276.

Sarah Kieffer placed 13th for the Raiders with a combined time of 1:10.04.

Ursula Rumann was 17th in 1:10.72.

Katie Roach was 23rd in 1:15.63.

Danika Truax was 26th in 1:17.95.


The Hastings boys were eighth with 236 points.

LaCrosse Logan (Wis.) won the boys meet with 287 points.

Adam Peine led Hastings with a 12th-place finish. He had a time of 35.39 on the first run and 37.59 on the second for a combined time of 1:12.98.

Stephen O'Connor was 19th in 1:15.22.

Joe Wright was 36th in 1:21.86.

Thomas Goonan was 54th in 1:31.79.

Squad 2 for the boys took eighth place with 224 points.

Stillwater won the Squad 2 meet with 292 points.

Nate Strauss led the Raiders with a 20th-place finish in 1:03.37.

Sam McKinney was 28th in 1:06.22.

Jake Gartzke was 31st in 1:07.31.

John Schmitz was 35th in 1:08.77.
