Raiders go 1-2 in own tournament

Last season, the Hastings girls tennis team had a successful season, but it was one in which there were a number of close and agonizing 4-3 losses.

Coach Craig Raway is hoping to turn those close losses into close wins this year.

So far, though, Hastings has been on the wrong side of two of those 4-3 matches.

During the Hastings Invitational last week, the Raiders lost to Eastview in the first round, 4-3.

Hastings went 2-2 in the four singles spots. Hailey Lundquist lost at first singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Morgan Tjomsland lost at second singles, 6-1, 6-1.

In the third spot, Katie Suchmova won 7-5, 2-6, 1-0. She is a foreign exchange student this year and she figures to be a fixture in the singles lineup.

At fourth singles, Maddie Carlson won 2-6, 7-5, 1-0.

In doubles, the top team of Jill Weinzettel and Annika Peterson lost 6-1, 7-5.

The second doubles team of Caitlyn Judge and Abbie Williams won 6-1, 6-2.

The third doubles team of Sammy Dabruzzi and Anna Foster lost 6-4, 6-7, 0-1.

In exhibition doubles, Katie Roach and Lauren Mattmiller won 6-1, 6-0.

In the tournament's second round, Hastings beat Woodbury, 6-1.

Weinzettel lost at first singles, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.

Suchmova won at second singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Judge won at third singles, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0.

Williams won at fourth singles, 7-6, 6-4.

Tjomsland and Lundquist cruised to a win at first singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Maddie Carlson and Peterson won 6-2, 7-6.

Dabruzzi and Mattmiller won 7-6, 6-3.

Bailey Alter and Foster won 6-2, 7-6.

In the tournament's final round, Hastings lost to a strong Rosemount team, 7-0.

Lundquist fell at first singles and Suchmova lost at the second spot. Tjomsland lost a close match at third singles, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0.

Maddie Carlson fell at fourth singles.

Weinzettel and Peterson lost at first doubles. Judge and Williams fell at the second spot and Dabruzzi and Mattmiller lost at third doubles.

Alter and Roach won in exhibition doubles, 7-5, 6-2.

Lakeville tourney

Hastings went 1-1 at a tournament in Lakeville.

The tournament's third round was rained out.

The tournament opened with a strong 5-2 win over Lakeville South.

Lundquist lost a close match at first singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Tjomsland won at second singles, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Maddie Carlson won at third singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Foster won at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Weinzettel and Peterson won again, 6-3, 6-3.

Williams and Judge won 6-3, 6-2.

Dabruzzi and Mattmiller lost a close match, 6-4, 7-5.

In the second round, Hastings lost to Armstrong, 4-3.

Hastings swept the three doubles spots, with Lundquist and Tjomsland winning 6-2, 6-2 at the top spot.

Judge and Williams won at the second spot, 6-3, 6-4.

Dabruzzi and Mattmiller won in third doubles, 6-2, 6-3.

Vs Northfield

Hastings lost to Northfield last week, 5-2.

Hastings was swept in the singles spots, with Lundquist, Tjomsland, Maddie Carlson and Foster all getting beat.

Weinzettel and Peterson won a close match at first doubles, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Judge and Williams lost at second doubles, but Dabruzzi and Mattmiller won at the third spot, 7-5, 7-6.
