Mudhens wrap up CCVL title with win over Hawks

Miesville wrapped up the Classic Cannon Valley League title Sunday with a 3-2 victory over Hastings in Miesville and secured the No. 1 seed for the Section 1B playoffs.

The Mudhens broke a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning when Matt Van Der Bosch took a pitch up the middle to score two runs. Van Der Bosch finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while Chuck Bruchu went 3-for-4 with two runs and David Bruchu finished 2-for-4 with a run. Alex LaShomb drove in one run with a 1-for-3 performance.

"It was just a good game overall," Van Der Bosch said. "It felt like a playoff-style game."

Miesville starter Luke Rassmussen struck out 10 and walked one in nine innings to pick up the victory. Rassmussen allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits.

Hastings took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and the Mudhens rallied to tie the game in the sixth. The Hawks added a run in the top of the ninth.

Miesville finished with 10 hits and will host Red Wing Sunday at 2 p.m. to begin playoffs.
