Rollercoaster season keeps coming at Raiders

The roller-coaster ride continues for the Hastings softball team.

The Raiders beat Park on Wednesday, 12-2, then lost two games to Suburban East Conference foes on Thursday and Monday.

Hastings lost to Roseville on Thursday, 9-3, and to Stillwater on Monday, 8-3.

The Raiders are now 7-11.

In the win over Park, Shelby Wassink led the way at the plate for the Raiders. She had three hits, including two doubles and the first home run of her career. One of her doubles hit the bottom of the fence, too.

Michaela Mills had two hits.

Courtney Van De Velde had two hits and three runs batted in.

Van De Velde, meanwhile, pitched a two-hitter to earn the win. Her battery mate was again Rachel Thomas.

"Rachel did a nice job calling the game, and the defense was focused throughout the whole game," coach Dean Robinson said. "We just plugged away and didn't give up any big innings."

The first time the two teams met earlier this year, Park won.

Hastings concludes the regular season on Friday with a 7 p.m. game at Chanhassen.

The section seeding pairings are released Monday morning, and the first game is Wednesday, May 23.

Vs Roseville

In the 9-3 loss to Roseville, Hastings struggled to time the opposing pitcher.

"We just weren't adjusting to the pitcher," Robinson said. "She is probably the best pitcher in our conference, and she's only a freshman. She was hitting her spots and just really kept us off balance at the plate."

Roseville, meanwhile, used a combination of timely hits to get their runs on the board.

Vs Stillwater

In the 8-3 loss to Stillwater, Hastings gave up four runs in the sixth inning, all of which came after a two-out error.

At the plate, Van De Velde had an RBI single, as did Kaylynn Johnson.

Hailey Lundquist had an RBI double, too.

Mills had two hits on the day.
