Raiders lose pitcher's duel with Raptors, 2-1

The Hastings boys baseball team lost a close pitchers' duel Monday against East Ridge, 2-1.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a hit by Nate Flynn that scored Matt Koch. In the sixth inning, though, East Ridge scored two runs and Hastings surrendered the lead.

Aaron Stoneberg took the loss on the mound for Hastings. He threw six innings and allowed seven hits and two runs, one of which was earned.

Stoneberg led Hastings offensively with three hits. Anders Hillstrom had two.

Hastings has a 2-8 record in Suburban East Conference play. Cretin-Derham Hall leads the league with an 8-2 record, and Forest Lake is in second place at 7-3.

"We continue to play close games," Hartmann said. "This group is getting closer to getting over the hump. We've had some tough breaks, no question.

"If we continue to approach the game the right way these last three weeks, we are going to start to get some of these breaks. Our attitude and our energy are all up to us at this point. This group has the potential to make these last few weeks a lot of fun. We'll see what happens."

Vs. Mounds View

Hastings lost to Mounds View on April 27, 5-0.

Hastings managed just two hits against the Mustangs, with one coming from Joe Shingledecker and the other coming from Josh Monjeau.

Zach Anderson took the loss on the mound. He threw five innings and allowed five runs, four of which were earned.

Andrew Bussey pitched the sixth inning.

Mounds View scored two runs in the first inning, two in the second and one in the fifth.

Vs. Stillwater

Hastings lost to Stillwater on April 26, 5-3.

Hastings took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, but couldn't hold on for the win.

Hastings got hits from Matt Koch, Eric McCarthy, Aaron Stoneberg, Nate Flynn, Jared Powell, Xavier Kopp, Shingledecker and two from Monjeau.

Recording RBIs were McCarthy, Shingledecker and Monjeau.

Kopp got the start on the mound. He was relieved by Joe Stark and Jon Barber.
