Big meet, big finish: Boys placed third to lead charge for HHS

The Hastings combined alpine skiing teams placed sixth out of 21 teams at the annual Welch Village Invitational on Friday.

The overall winner was LaCrosse Logan, which had 628 points. East Ridge finished with 610 and Rochester had 607. Hastings had 536 points.

The second Hastings team finished in fourth place in its race. They had 635 points to come in behind Eagan-Eastview (685), Mahtomedi (660) and St. Cloud (657).


The Hastings boys placed third in the race with 293 points. The winning team was LaCrosse Logan. They finished with 374 points. Woodbury was second with 295. There were 20 teams that competed.

The Raiders were led by Dustin Erickson, who placed third overall. He had a time on the red course of 32.49 seconds and on the blue course of 31.12 seconds for a combined time of 1:03.61.

Adam Peine finished 19th overall. He had times of 35.59 and 33.40 for a combined time of 1:08.99.

Stephen O'Connor placed 25th with times of 35.58 and 34.74. His combined time was 1:10.32.

Thomas Goonan rounded out Squad 1 for the boys. He had times of 53.58 and 38.47 for a combined time of 1:32.05. He placed 64th overall.

On Squad Two, the Raiders were led by Jacob Juelfs, who finished fifth in 1:01.01.

Joe Wright finished in 1:07.48.

Kyle Stapleton had a combined time of 1:09.71. Will Caturia had an overall time of 1:11.77.


The Hastings girls placed 11th in their race. The Raiders had 241 points.

East Ridge won the meet with 349 points and Rochester was second with 335.

The girls were led by Gabriella Sorg, who finished 14th overall. She had a time of 36.07 on the red course and 40.06 on the blue course for a combined time of 1:16.13.

Esther Susag finished 22nd overall with a combined time of 1:19.93. She had times of 37.99 and 41.94 on her individual runs.

Sara Juelfs finished 26th overall. She had a time of 36.95 on the red course and 44.02 on the blue course for a combined time of 1:20.97.

Katie Karl also raced varsity for the girls.

Ursula Rumann finished in 1:12.62. Sarah Kieffer had a time of 1:14.34.

Danika Truax came in at 1:15.66. Elle Peine had a time of 1:18.46.
