Raider boys soccer team falls to East Ridge, 5-0

The Hastings boys soccer team continues to struggle in its search for wins. The Raiders lost a pair of Suburban East Conference games and a non-conference game and have slipped to 1-14 on the season.

Hastings lost to East Ridge last Tuesday, 5-0.

"For the most part, it was good play on (East Ridge's) behalf," coach Shane Lanning said. "They had two guys, in particular, that were really fast and got three breakaways. They capitalized on those. They simply got around us.

"In the second half, once they got that third goal, it was a downward spiral for us. It's difficult to keep your spirits up when you are constantly getting goals scored against you."

Ian Johnson played in goal and despite allowing five goals he had a strong game, Lanning said.

"He had eight to 10 good saves, and two nice breakaway saves," he said.

John Tomczak and Kerry Wise, a pair of seniors, were called upon in the game and both responded, Lanning said.

"They both stepped up pretty well," he said. "Kerry played up front, and John played an attacking center midfielder position. They put on a lot of pressure, and harvested three or four shots. They went in with about 10 minutes left in the first half, and I left them in for the second half.

"It was good to see two guys who weren't getting a lot of minutes to take the opportunity and really shine. Those two guys, in particular, were impressive for that game."

Hastings lost to a very good Eastview team on Saturday, 5-0.

On Tuesday, Hastings lost to Woodbury, 5-2. More information on the Woodbury game will appear in next week's issue.
