Rough first half costs Raiders boys soccer team

Hastings coach Shane Lanning said it best: "It was the tale of two halfs."

Lanning was talking about his team's 4-0 loss to Mounds View on Thursday. In the first half, the Mustangs put four goals up on the scoreboard against the Raiders.

In the second half, the two teams were scoreless.

"At halftime, we made a formation adjustment," Lanning said. "In the first half, we had the wrong formation against them. We just can't make major formational changes on the fly - we usually have to do that at halftime to get everyone on the same page. We made the adjustment at halftime, we made the correct adjustment, and in the second half, we were scoreless with them."

The loss dropped Hastings to 1-11 on the season.

Despite the loss, Lanning said several players had strong games. In the midfield, Alex Lewanski and Kristian Sebion played well, Lanning said. Scott Matecki game in for the second half and played well, too.

"Scott had an impressive half against Mounds View," Lanning said. "He helped create some pressure offensively, too."

Hastings lost to Cretin-Derham Hall last Tuesday, 3-0.
