Hawks sweep Randolph, beat Bears

The Hastings Hawks had a solid week, taking two games from Randolph last Wednesday in a doubleheader at Veterans Park in Hastings.

Hastings won 18-3 in the first game and 10-0 in the second.

Jordy Horsch had six hits on the night, scored five runs and had two RBI.

Adam Barta won the first game on the mound for the Hawks.

Colin Brackeen won the second game.

Hastings beat Cannon Falls on Sunday, 5-3, to improve their record to 16-12 on the season.

Deryk Marks earned the win and Mark Moriarty picked up the save.

At the plate, Derrick Pfeffer led the way with three hits.

The last home game of the season was Wednesday night, when Hastings played host to Dundas.

The Dukes are likely going to be the team Hastings sees in the first round of the playoffs, set to begin Aug. 2.

The 16-12 record, and the way his team has been playing lately, reminds Barta of the previous few seasons.

"We haven't necessarily played the greatest," Barta said. "At the same time, we've played really well at the end of the last two years and we've gone to the state tournament. If the last two years are any indication of how we're going to finish out, I'll take that.

"Presently, I'd say the season as a whole, on a one-to-10 scale would be a seven."
