Hastings to host Spiral Basketball Tournament this weekend

The Hastings community will welcome 3,000 visitors this weekend as it prepares to host the 29th Annual Boys Spiral Basketball Tournament. From across Minnesota and Wisconsin, 108 teams will compete for championships in six different grade levels.

"The Spiral Classic provides the kids in our traveling program an opportunity to play in a hometown tournament and invite more of their family to come and watch them participate," said the tournament manager, Layne Skoyen.

Local merchants also said they see a benefit from the additional people in town for the weekend.

Games will be played at the high school and middle school. Brackets can be found online at Admission is charged on a daily basis. The cost for adults is $5 and for students $4. Children under 5 are admitted for free. Hastings has a record number of 10 teams entered in this years tournament. The opening games for each team are as follows:

High School

1:25 p.m. - Seventh Grade vs Owatonna

2:30 p.m. - Fourth Grade Blue vs East Ridge

2:30 p.m. - Fourth Grade Gold vs Farmington

4:40 p.m. - Ninth Grade vs East Ridge

5:45 p.m. - Eighth Grade "C" vs Mounds View

6:50 p.m. - Eighth Grade "A" vs Cottage Grove or Woodbury

Middle School

8 a.m. - Fifth Grade "A" vs Farmington

9:05 a.m. - Fifth Grade "C" vs East Ridge

1:25 p.m. - Sixth Grade Blue vs Cottage Grove

4:40 p.m. - Sixth Grade Gold vs Burnsville
