Strandberg leads the way
The story of the Hastings cross country season continues to come in small packages.
Sophomore Bri Strandberg placed fourth overall to lead the Hastings contingent at its lone home meet of the year, the Dewey Minnaert Invitational at Spring Lake Park on Thursday.
Strandberg had a time of 16:20.70 to lead the team.
"She was a little nervous," Hastings coach John Dewall said. "She had some pre-race jitters. She shook them off and went out there and had fun. She had a phenomenal race. She didn't even look too tired when she came in."
Behind her was seventh-grader Helen Jensen, who placed 20th with a time of 17:32.44.
"She's out there having a great time," Dewall said. "She is always smiling. We're real proud of her. She's got some real talent."
The Raiders placed fourth at the meet with 124 points.
East Ridge won the race with 37 points.
Red Wing was right behind with 39.
Juliann Moes shot up the Hastings ranks with a 23rd-place finish. She had a time of 17:53.91. Moes is a junior.
"She hasn't run cross country before, but she is a good athlete," Dewall said. "Even without a lot of training, she has been able to race pretty effectively."
Freshman Makaila England was 28th in 18:01.40.
Nicole Froehling had a time of 19:38.18. The HHS junior placed 54th. Allissa Smith was right behind, placed 55th in 19:40.80. She is a seventh-grader.
Mackenzie Klimek placed 59th with a time of 19:46.85.
Kailiana Rivet and Stephanie Lindgren rounded out the Hastings lineup. Rivet had a time of 20:33.24 and Lindgren came in at 20:42.26.
Hastings placed sixth with 169 points.
Red Wing won the meet with 44.
North St. Paul was second with 64 and Osseo was third with 84.
Zack Benning, a freshman, led Hastings with a 24th-place finish. He came in at 18:16.89.
"Zack had a great race, and he's having a great season so far," Dewall said. "We're looking for a lot of good things coming up from him here the rest of the season. He has definitely been a force for us so far."
Chase Keilers, a senior, had a 32nd-place finish, coming in at 18:33.53.
Colby Smith, a freshman, was 34th overall at 18:34.66.
Junior Riley Tarrant was 42nd in 18:54.13.
Joe Rabaey came in 45th with a time of 18:56.01. He is a sophomore.
Mohamed Osman, a junior, was 56th overall with a time of 19:23.82.
Christian Weiland rounded out the Hastings lineup with a 61st-place finish in 19:35.68. He is a sophomore.
