Hampton Cardinals win seeding game in 11th inning

The Hampton Cardinals are heading into the state tournament in style.

The Cardinals earned their section's No. 1 seed by beating New Prague on Sunday, 13-12.

Hampton got out to an early lead, but New Prague came right back and tied the game 7-7.

New Prague added five runs to take a 12-7 lead, but the Cardinals tied it thanks to a bottom-of-the-ninth inning rally.

In the 11th inning, Mitch Johnson singled in the winning run.

Hampton's first state tournament game is planned for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 against Young America. The game will be played in Bird Island.

The tournament is single elimination through the first two games, then it goes to double elimination.
